Do we risk keeping him on the hope of going up next season or do we cash in now

I think we have to cash in now. The club needs to generate money or we just become another Wigan or Reading completely dependent on big hand outs from its owners.
He's been a superb asset for us but I think we need to allow him to move on IF we get a decent offer.
From Mads' point of view I'm sure he's been happy here but he's reached a point in his career where his stock is high and he can probably command wages up to four times what he earns here. Who could deny him that and it's not a salary we could come remotely close to matching.

    Mads's value? £1.5M (Max)
    Value of promotion? £7-8M

We had Mads this season. We didn't get promoted.

It would be great if he stayed but I think as people have said we should sell if the right offer comes in. I think he's worth more than £1.5M though.

That's true enough, but I think you'd accept our chances next season are better if he stays?

Keep him while he's under contract. The potential for promotion with him is a better risk than losing him and trying to compensate for the loss in my opinion.

Are you suggesting we didn"t get promoted because we had Anderson this season ?

Nothing to do with money for me. He’s too good for this level. For his own sake he should be at a better Club at a higher level. Having said that he’s the most important player at the Cub. We looked worse than awful without him. Should he want to stay, we should move heaven and earth to keep him.

Why as fans do we wish players away that are 'too good' for the division we are in. Loads of clubs keep hold of players that should be playing at higher levels. If he wants to go, then fine. But if he loves it here and the financials make sense then we should do everything we can to keep him.

Would love for him to stay, but suspect the club gave him assurances last summer that they wouldn’t stand in his way if we didn’t go up.

My favourite player. Love the kid. Hope he stays. Let's show some ambition and push on next year. Would love him to sign a new contract.

Totally academic given even if we decide to try and keep him, he may well decide to play at a higher level- caveat that with not becoming a squad/benchwarmer player, but...
Moneywise... £1.5 to £2m sounds great but an adequate replacement costs probably half that with agent fees etc.etc . Furthermore any replacement however well researched needs time to adapt to our system which again means a less than optimal start to the season so, once again we would likely (given we are certainly looking at new players in the first team) be in a catch up mode.
Someone else has said promotion £6-7m but some are saying we would become reliant on money from owners like other failing clubs.
To the latter I would say the amounts we are talking for what would be a 2nd season push for Championship status are relatively low compared to those clubs who gambled huge amounts on promotion. Furthermore, whilst others threw money paying unrealistically high wages assembling (certainly in Wednesday's case a squad of experienced but ageing players ) Barnsley would be investing in a young side many of whom are improving game by game under the tutelage of a highly talented, albeit still growing himself, coach.
Another, albeit less quantifiable factor, is the 'feelgood factor' of supporters if they see the new committed board prepared to invest for a 2nd season like they have done for the last one. This may well translate to an increase week on week on the gate through POTD and season ticket sales.
As someone else also posted, if the quality of the entertainment increases so will the crowd.
My 'balance sheet 'pros and con' came out in favour of a push for retaining the spine even if it meant the board shelling out several million more to finance it. That said its a far simpler decision when it is not my money.
The downside either way, is, IMO this season is a golden opportunity to push on and, although football is a 'funny old game' and I do not have a crystal ball, I fear if we end up spending next season in League 1 we will definitely lose both the momentum and spine of the team, Duff will be off and BFC will simply 'exist'
By now after, several posts of a similar vein you can clearly see, I am firmly in the invest this next season camp(calculated gamble) and, whilst not totally letting my heart rule my head I am more optimistic than some on here who urge caution. ' Faint heart never won fair lady'

I just hope the holders of the purse strings can see the opportunity that has opened up before them and take the appropriate course of action.

Be interesting to see the reaction of those advocating caution and selling vs those who would like to see further investment!

As per my recent post above, you know my view but both options have pluses and minuses.
What I fail to understand are those that almost seem to be advising Mads to go 'for his own benefit'. Tell me any successful business that recommends and actively promotes the idea to highly valued, high performing, star employees that they should leave to work for a competitor!! BFC should accept we may lose him but do their best to retain him and I do not accept a book balancing exercise involving selling Mads is good business. He may be a league above us next season if he goes to the Championship but the season afterwards he would likely be direct competition should we be promoted!

@orsenkaht...'I know you like a flutter on the horses. 'Tis a pity you can't work out the odds on promotion for both scenarios.;)
