[Sorry in advance for posting an advert, but our kids club is desperately looking for new players. See below for why we need your help] Silkstone Common Miners Welfare are recruiting for Under 10, 9s, 8s and 7s mixed boy/girl teams. If anyone has any kids, grandkids, next doors kids, looking to join a team please send them our way and we promise they'll have lots of fun, make friends and learn the beautiful game in a safe environment. All abilities welcome, lots of friendly parents involved, its a community run club, volunteers CRB checked, training on Wednesdays 6pm at Silkstone Common Recreation Ground, S75 4QB Background (and why we need your help) Silkstone Common Miners Welfare FC was founded in 1926 by local miners, the team flourished until fire destroyed the club’s pavilion and facilities in 1996, which was a great blow, the club struggled from then on and played their last game there in 2002. 20 years later, after a 4 year campaign, the club was resurrected, with 2 junior teams playing in Silkstone Common last season for the first time in 2 decades. We are now trying to grow the club and establish it once again as a well known local team. Unlike all the other junior teams in Barnsley we don't have decades of investment, knowledge being passed down or good word of mouth that exists, so we are having to work extra hard to recruit new players and rebuild the club, hence the plea for help My son played there last season and has loved it, as have we as parents, the whole club has a friendly community feel to it. So if anyone knowns any kids who like football but don't play for a team please please please mention us. Training is on Wednesdays 6pm at Silkstone Common Recreation Ground, S75 4QB. Come down, take part and see if they like it. Any questions feel free to DM me Thanks
Will be definitely getting my boy involved with this if he's up for it as we're in the village... trouble is he's only 16 months old so a bit too young right now
Is there any effin & jeffin? What are the parents/adults like? My lad's 9 and is starting to take a real interest. We went to one Club (will remain nameless) and the behaviour & language from parents & adults was appalling - even worse was one bloke's response, when I asked him to curb the language in front of kids! So we've been a bit wary since.
Yikes that sounds awful. I've never heard swearing at our games to date, all the parents I know have always encouraged kids, wether its their own or someone elses. Your welcome to come to training, take a look around (listen to parents ) and get a feel for it, see if your young one enjoys it. The under 10s have 4 spaces left so im sure he'll be welcomed. The under 10s manager is a nice bloke as well, he makes sure all the kids get a fair turn
You had me exited then until you said 16 months! If everything goes to plan they are hoping to set up teams for every age, as well as a mens and womens team and a pre-school football session group, so hopefully by the time he's 3 we'll have something for the little fella to get involved in
Hi. My lad is 7 (turns 8 in November). He's been doing various coaching sessions for the last copuple of years and I wouldn't mind sounding out a club for him.
Mines 7 too and he's loved it here, he played up a year last season as there wasn't enough for an under 7s then, but we've just managed to get enough to setup a new under 8s for the new season. We've got 5 players so far (its 5 a side at that age) so we are desperate for kids this age as theres always someone away, sick or at a kids party who can't make a game, so a few more kids in this team would be great. You'll be glad to know that almost all the team are Barnsley fans, so if yours is a red he'll fit right it Your more than welcome to bring him down and check it all out. If you need directions or have any more questions let me know?
I've just 'started a conversation' with you on here, i think thats how private messages work on the BBS (anyone know?) I've never tried until now. If it doesn't work let me know and we'll work out another way to chat
Haha! That sounds great, I will definitely keep an eye out, I know someone posts about the team on the Silkstone FB group so will see what happens. He might hate footy, who knows! (Better not!)
