You'll get over it second we kick-off in the Championship again. That's the reason I'm still not over the loss to Ipswich in 2000.

Over a week later and I’m feeling good about it all, which I mostly put down to my son.

Hes 7 years old and has been chanting “Wednesday get battered” whenever he sees a Wednesday fan he knows, wether that’s a kid or grown up, he’s of an age where he doesn’t realise it’s inappropriate to sing in public at the top of his voice  At first I’d try and make him stop, smiling at whoever he was singing at while with gritted teeth whispering “please shut up”, but like all kids he ignored that so I’ve had it almost daily since the final, I’ve gotten used to the awkwardness now!!

After a loss I’d usually explain to him it’s wrong to celebrate, but from his perspective Wednesday were poor, we played great and they were gifted promotion not on merit but on luck, and when I see the reaction from Wednesday grown ups to my sons gloating I can see in their face that they know that’s the case, there’s no glory in it for them, you’ll get the odd one trying to inflate the victory but even they know they are blowing hot air out of their rear. His gloating has really helped me get over it, he’s not suffered defeat to them before, he’s not damaged (yet!), and I like his perspective. Honestly he’s not been rude it’s all banter, but he just thinks we have the glory and we are the ones to be singing about it not them, if anyone challenges his song he quickly moves onto “we only had 10 men” which usually shuts anyone up. We should all see it like the un-scared kids do, there was only one team who came away with any pride really ;)

I just know they WILL get battered every week now, while we march on to promotion

Just to play devil's advocate - maybe its apathy and you are still disconnected.

I was gutted but came to terms with it quite quickly due to the same thing, i found it easier to accept that we'd played brilliantly with 10 men and our lads gave it their all and we were done by several bad refereeing calls and a 123rd minute goal.

If we'd played terribly and got battered 4-0 i feel like i'd still be upset about it now.

It's more or less forgotten for me now.
