Landed himself a new job, CEO of RWD Molenbeek. The club Obbi Oulare has spent the last season with. Seems Gauthier left AS Nancy after another relegation, Cheap Lee and Paul Conman don't half enjoy relegations with the club's they own!
I once saw RWDM. Back about 1974 at Dens Park in a European tie. I actually thought they went under a few years ago and were no more. Surprised to hear of their continued existence.
Maybe it’s some scam like “Springtime for Hitler” in the Producers, where the idea is to have teams which fail rather than succeed. And when we nearly blew it by getting into the playoffs for the Premier League two years ago they had to sign Oulare and Iseka to make sure we kept to the script.
I've often wondered how ConLee would spin it to potential investors, or fellow businesses. Chien: 'Paul, you go..' Conway: 'Well, we've built up an impressive portfolio across Europe, investing in soccer teams throughout the continent. We work from an innovative spreadsheet to identify emerging talent from unknown entities - for example the second division of Austria - implementing a continual conveyor belt of players, onboarding and offloading; one season at Barnsley, I orchestrated the greatest transfer window ever! We aim to maximise profits, maintaining a strong focus on seasonal memberships and divisional retention. Potential investor: how's that working out for ya? Conway: waddayamean? Potential investor: how successful are the teams that you invest in, and how happy are the customers, from when you first invested in the club to where they're at now? Do you notice a pattern? Lee: we suck the lifeblood out of them
We introduce rich fuddyduddies to mediocre football teams and extort money out of them. I was mesmerised when I heard Conway was merely a broker acting in the interest of a group of ill advised people who only realised who they were dealing with in a chance meeting with an ex CEO.
Re Conman and lee. I've got to admit to giving em a chance when they came in and supported em. Thinking PC had left us in good hands. (not blaming him btw I'm pretty sure he would have been as livid as to how it panned out. When conman took on the CEO role.) How wrong some of us were. I have nowt but contempt at how conman mainly/lee have conducted themselves at not just Barnsley but other clubs they invested in. I'm not exactly sure what lee gets out of the whole mess. Conman must revel in it. Lee is the founder and Chairman of NewCity Capital, a private investment firm, major shareholder of Barnsley F.C.,[4] co-owner of FC Thun,[5] co-owner of K.V. Oostende,[6] chairman and co-owner of Nancy,[7][8] co-owner of Esbjerg fB,[9] co-owner of FC Den Bosch,[10] co-owner of 1. FC Kaiserslautern,[11] co-owner of GKS Tychy FC[12] former owner and Chairman of OGC Nice and co-founder of 7 Days Inn.[13] Apart from us. Only Nice finished in the top half of their respective leagues. 9/18 most got relegated either last season or this. Btw In What league do 7 Days inn play. ?
Wow so Nancy have gone down again - to the 4th non professional tier. That's some fall. It's the club where Platini got his start.
No return on investment there, unless they can convince a massive Nancy fan to pay more than they paid for the club just to try and salvage some respect.
Nancy are a much bigger club than we are. Similar standing to someone like Leicester or Norwich looking at their fanbase and top flight history. You would have thought that within their supporters there would be the will and wherewithal to take control of the club. Having spoken to French friends recently, it seems that French fans are far more fickle than we are even in England (with the exception of St Etienne, who are unfailingly loyal). But that doesn't seem to be the case with Nancy from what I've seen. On an aside, it seems a bit harsh that 6 out of 18 teams get relegated from their 3rd tier!
