Ah, I was in a rush and hadn't looked above- that's funny. So cool.to get a song from the stars for your birthday, mate.

I got to see Sparklehorse one time on my birthday at the Leadmill, think it was maybe 2003. Special day

Aw, Sparklehorse at the Leadmill. It doesn’t get any better than that. Only saw London shows, the 2 Union Chapel gigs, probably my favourites. First one, opening for Mazzy Star,(95?) dream bill. I was in front row at Royal Festival Hall, took my painter friend Dan. It was great, but I didn’t like the touring drummer, too excitable. Sol Seppy opened though, & that was a very big deal for me. Check her records out, she’s wonderful.
The last London show was at Shepherds Bush Empire. Around the corner from where my Mams folks settled, after the war. Mark pretty much played acoustically, with this lass on key’s & samples, who also did the lovely animation projections, behind as the played..:)

Awesome, thanks for the tips man. So cool you saw them in 95.

I first saw them around 1998 touring Good Morning Spider at the Leeds Cockpit, more of a heavy four piece line up. Arrived a bit late into the support act which was this great punky brass affair which turned out to have been Neutral Milk Hotel. Saw Mark and the band at the bar after the set and started talking to the bassist (not sure who) and said 'I play your songs! ' and started gushing about them. The guy patted Mark on the shoulder and said , 'hey, he plays your songs' looking back totally to take the piss out of this dumb sycophantic kid, but Mark came over to chat and was just lovely! Seemed genuinely to listen and be interested and the sort of warm, humble southern gentleman everyone says he was. I was even asking dumb **** like what happened with the wheelchair? Man. Then later asked where he could get food and I didn't have a good tip.

Saw them again at the cockpit 2001- i think maybe the same quieter line-up with double bass and cello that you mentioned- and I think the Leadmill was 2006.

    Still miss him

    That’s a lovely story mate, thanks.x
Marie told me about the time she met him. Radiohead were just licking his boots. He was more interested in talking to her..
He had opened for them, when he had the wierd accident. & they recorded Wish You Were Here, together.
Marie has recently recorded Saint Mary. For a cancer charity. It’s on YouTube I think. Marie Therese. She’s my best friend.x
