But we ultimately crashed and burned. Not all appointments are going to work out, so the more frequently you change manager, the sooner you get a bad one. It also saw the list of players out on loan grow as new coaches had different views on players.

If we’re going to lose every coach that has a good year, we’ll never become an established Championship club.

But that was more to do with conman and Lee and having no plan behind the scenes.
Look at Luton lost Jones a couple of times and carried on moving forward with a plan and a style of play they wanted to play.

That's the key though, if he goes we need someone who will play similar football to what we do now. When we lost Val they tried to go totally different with Schopp and it was an absolute disaster.......

There are some interesting takes in this thread. All we know for sure is Swansea have made an approach.
We expect there is release clause because we’ve done that before but we have no idea if Swansea are prepared to meet it
If they are we still don’t know if Duff is interested
And finally I believe they are considering several candidates so even if they meet our terms and Duff wants to go they could well not actually offer him the job.

There is a chance Duff will go to Swansea but it’s hard to really know how likely it is.

It’s far from the slam dunk some depressing glass almost empty posters are portraying

To be fair, the appointments of Steiner and Ismael were very good appointments. But the frequency of change was still damaging.

The challenge for the board is to turn the club into somewhere that people will have to thing long and hard about leaving. At the moment, the thinking still seems to be that we can replace whoever leaves, we need to start valuing when someone does a good job.

Be better if he says he's not interested and we get told that. If he is happy to speak to them and then doesn't get it, that would change things.

Not really, the majority have just speculated on the speculation, while some have translated it as 'fact' and been challenged on that.

If Duff wasn’t interested, the story would be dead by now.

He could well go for talks and not like what he hears. There’s nothing wrong with being open to opportunities and holding talks with them.

I really can't stand Jones. Hes a 'we' guy when things are going well, and an ' I ' guy when his team loses.

On the BBC as well :( "Duff, 45, is high on Swansea's list with the Welsh club believed to have made initial contact with Barnsley."
Not a flounce but seriously wondering if there is any point to following Barnsley should we lose yet another promising manager on top of the, likely departure of Mads (at the bare minimum of the first team squad).

Starting over every season using the excuse "we are a selling club" is depressing. If he goes I will feel like I did when Danny Wilson went off the Wednesday. Not entirely Barnsley's fault as money has become the driving force in football as it has in almost every business nowadays. Loyalty is in short supply verging on non-existent. Let's face it, if the likes of Duff can be lured away after just one season , given his reputation for seeing a job through then we are basically f*cked.
I take little interest in International football and even less in Premier League. If we were to have another 'starting from scratch'season the one remaining link I have wi th football i.e. Barnsley F.C. will lose its draw and I may well chalk 'f*ck it' and give up on the game altogether.

I truly hope it is a baseless rumour.

Very true. But given how well he’d done, I just wish we’d got a new contract in front of him earlier, like Bolton did with Evett, who incidentally would’ve been a much better fit for Swansea. It would have stopped a lot of this

It's like anyone though, haven't everyone at least looked at other jobs, had interviews then declined or been declined for them. I know I have, I've been in my job 9 years now and enjoy it but I'll have a sneaky look around now and again.

    That's him gone then.

Personally, the moment any manager says he's interested in speaking to another Club, he has to go for me. Untenable, to have a manager who is openly willing to leave. We wouldn't tolerate it from a player, and we shouldn't tolerate it from a manager.

Yes. If he wasn’t interested, his name would never have been briefed to journalists as somebody they were looking at.

Apparently Swansea have a list of names, yet, only one name has been named public.

Well I meant when we went from direct val to schopp who I still have no idea what football he tried to play, then wasted most of our summer budget on the 2 injured Belgium lads.

It was always my worry from day 1 that if a "bigger" job came up for him closer to home then we would be at risk. My bro in law is a CTFC season ticket holder and he conformed this at the time of Michaels appointment.
MD is a big family man and that was always going to be one of tbe main factors for him to consider
His wife is a Cheltenham girl and doesn't want to leave the area. My concern was Bristol Coty when they sack Pearson. The Swansea vacancy has taken me by surprise.
Don't want to be a doom mongerer but I'll be surprised if he stays if he's offered it. The family "pull" is key here. If I would have been offered a big pay rise to leave my job and be closer to my family I would have taken it.
I'll be really sickened if he goes as he is the perfect fit for us but.....tis what it is and we would have to move on.
It's really disappointing to see comments in this thread blaming the club and the board and the same old "I'm gonna pack it in of we can't keep him" nonsense. The club have turned a corner for the better. show some faith and be realistic. Trust in Khaled and the board to make the right appointment if MD does go.
Don't blame people when you don't know all the facts. That's not a good habit.
If he chooses to go because he prefers Swansea to us then away he goes and we move on.
Hope to god he makes me eat my words and stays!!

Agree. Reckon he’s gone now anyway.
What a crap couple of weeks. If we’d beaten the fowls this wouldn’t be happening.

Is that really the same though? Have you needed permission from your employer, to apply for other jobs? Do you have 10,000 people personally investing in you? Genuinely not having a go, I just don't think you can compare the average person in the private sector, to a football club manager.
