I couldn’t think of any worse. Underperformed in all 4 of his jobs in my opinion & dreadful in the last two.
Not sure Duff staying in those circumstances would be an ideal scenario going forward. By negotiating with Swansea he'll have demonstrated he's not fully committed to the project at Oakwell.
Can we divvy up all the supermarkets in the BMBC region and hang around them so we can get the official line from Disco? It seems like it's the only way we're going to find out what's going on. I'll take the Co-Op in Royston.
First of all Duff has said nothing, it seems like this board is making his decision for him. We don’t know whether he’s applied, interviewed, or is interested. Of course a successful manager is in demand, but let’s wait until we know more than paper talk and rumours.
What also baffles me is people on a unregulated football message board, where gossip is part of its raison d'etre, admonishing those engaging in speculation, like its a court of law. If you want only the reporting of official news released by the club this isn't the place for you.
IF he’s actually in negotiations with Swansea, IMO his position is untenable and there’s no way back. I appreciate plenty will disagree, that’s just my opinion. I just can’t see how a manager can return to a Club and demand loyalty and support, if he’s been privately trying to negotiate his own exit. I just don’t see it. He wouldn’t have my trust or loyalty, that’s for sure. Damage is done for me.
He’s gone. It would have been put to bed by now if he wasn’t. Just hope we have been using these last few days to start scoping out our plans not that 500k as reported is true isn’t going to give us too much to play with tbh.
I don’t get some people’s obsession with the clause value. Whether it’s 500k or 2 million won’t get us a better or worse replacement all it will do is ease very slightly financial pressure in the short term at the club.
I think the issue is, the lower the fee, the more likely it always was that he would go if he did well.
Not sure what people want the club to do to be honest if Swansea have agreed to pay the compensation and Duff wants to speak to them then there's nothing they can do. As to the amount of compo maybe if we had made say 1m he wouldn't have come who knows as we are all well aware there's only one lset of loyal people at any club so let's all chill and wait to get behind whoever leads us and wears the red shirt come August 5th.
Yeah,I think it definitely depends on the situation. If Swansea pull out of an offer after negotiations with the club have already happened then his position is probably untenable, but if he just talks to them and decides he prefers it here then what would be wrong with that? It’s good news, if anything. Hell, it’s probably unlikely but it might just even be negotiation on his part - he could come back and say “They’ve offered me £x so that’s my value, but I’d rather stay if you can match it.” Again, perfectly reasonable behaviour.
If somebody is concerned about how readily they can be poached by other clubs after only one season, then we don't want them in my opinion. The club need to tweak these contracts that allows them more control. Whether that's a release clause that is only active after the second season, or an option in the club's favour to upgrade the contract in a way that adds an extra year, but also increases/removes for a period the release fee and also a pay rise for the coach himself. My biggest worry though, is whether the reason Duff is interested in the move is down the the plans for next season put forward to him by the club, For example, if the club think we can unearth some 20/21 year old that can replace Mads.
You call it admonishing. I'd call it waiting for confirmation through the official Channels. There are many examples of rumours that fall flat. Woodrow was a prime example. A few yrs ago. He's off. Club are w4nkers etc. No he wasn't he signed a new contract. Dozens of players rumoured throughout the years coming to tarn. No, most of em don't. First it was Huddersfield who supposedly targeted Duff. Caused mayhem. Now its shifted to Swansea. There may be more meat on the bones so to speak. But if that is true Swansea should be ashamed if leaking owt out (Leaks sometimes are bullsh1t. Done to create uncertainty among others) Given they haven't concluded the Southampton deal yet. And Barnsley should take em to task. Afore any agreement is signed.
We can't be sure the size of the release fee was decided by the club. We want Duff, he's our prime target, and he agrees to come but only if there's a release clause of 500k in his contract. Do we say thanks but no thanks, or do we go ahead?
