    Adam Nicols yard is just around the corner from me. I was speaking to him last week in his yard and he is a really nice chap.

    Just chipped away today. River Tiber, Bradsell and Vauban. Couple of e/w places managed Charyn at 66/1 and Highland Avenue at 22/1.

    More seriously, this looks like one of the most competitive Royal Ascots I've seen in years. Each day seems to have expanded to seven races, and there are some massive fields. This has an effect on quality and attractiveness for betting purposes, it seems to me. Take today (Wednesday) for example. The 2.30 (Queen Mary Stakes): Twenty-eight runners, of which twenty have the Timeform 'p', denoting a likely improver. Nigh-on impossible to assess which will improve most. So no bet race for me. You could make similar comments regarding many of the races on the card. The Prince of Wales's Stakes (4.20) is a cracker, but very strong cases can be made for four of the six runners, and the other two are not totally out of it. Great race to watch though. So my only bets today are as follows.

    5.00 Royal Hunt Cup
    I've combined Ghaly/Blue For You/Perotto for an even return, paying roughly 3/1 (denoting a 25% chance). Another competitive race, but I think these three have better chances than most.
    6.10 Windsor Castle Stakes
    I'm all on Johannes Brahms for Aidan/Ryan. Aidan showed the strength of his two year olds with River Tiber yesterday, and he has won three of the last eight renewals of this race. I thought he showed bags of scope for improvement at Naas and hopefully Ryan can Lull(aby) them to sleep on this one.

    Morning all, had a tip phoned through this morning, Crystal Caprice, 3.05ascot, dropped back to a favourable distance, ground MIGHT, not be, thought i'd pass on,

    Obviously the ground wasnt reight, one to follow. Sorry.

    I can’t recall such big fields but the bookies are trying to make betting more appealing by paying out EW bets for extra finishes.
    Stephen’s 66/1 horse yesterday would have paid roughly 12/1 for a place and Highfield Ave wouldn’t normally have paid out for fourth.

    My only bet today is Adayar

    Fancy a few of horses already mentioned in this thread. I've a feeling today might be make or break for me. Weather been kind so no excuses today. I'll either carry on into rest of week or it'll be countdown and homes under the hammer.

    I'm a stickler for red an white colours, chasing aphrodite and rouge milenium fiver eachway double

    Mixed bag t'day lost 100 quid on one, lost a tenner on another and luckily i had 10 e / way Rogue millenium, and 25 e /way Sonny liston, showing a profit so aving one bet t'morra.

    Here's a curiosity. The Royal procession makes it's way up the course with the King and Queen in the first carriage. The time-honoured custom is that the National Anthem is struck up as they enter the last furlong, and all gentlemen on the course and in the stands remove their hats as a sign of respect to the King. But the first two days, King Charles has also removed his. Yet it's him that they are paying respect to! Is he being all egalitarian and returning the respect, or is it that after seventy years of removing his to honour the Queen he does it out of habit? All flummery of course, but I just found it curious!

    Did you know that Berk meant c nut. In cockney rhyming slang you might as well call someone a c nut as call them a Berk. Short for Berkshire Hunt. Ascot is in Berkshire.
