No mention of others in statement and had a quick look at personnel and only position not filled is his(Paterson etc still there), doesn’t mean won’t change of course and might wanted it out before he turned up at Swansea tomorrow
we failed to get promoted. That was the aim for a club which is quite a big one in L1 with a big budget. Lot what Paul Warne achieved on a much smaller budget at Rotherham.
You say that, yet Plymouth, Ipswich, Coventry, Bolton, Posh, all retained their managers so far. They'll have had plenty of interest.
I'm sure the money is a big part but let's be fair, they're a division above us with a decent chance of pushing on. Anyone with a degree of ambition wouldn't pass that up. Take the emotion out of it and it is a sensible move for him. I didn't see any of our fans slagging Duff off when he left Cheltenham for us!! Weird that...
Thing is , we lost Val for £2M. The season that followed was catastrophic. He was possibly the best chance we had of gaining premier league football in the recent past and foreseeable future. Players were running through brick walls for him. Who’s to say that with a bit of patience and investment we couldn’t have done a Luton? Sorry, no clauses for me. Take it or leave it.
What a statement that is- "You Reds" at the end . I think he will have it tougher down there than he realises- grass isn't always greener. Hope it goes to **** for him after all his ******** about loyalty. Cant really fault club- i know people are saying about contracts and release clauses but I'm almost certain it works a different way for managers and the club were probably rather powerless in this situation. The conditions that have allowed is exit were most likely agreed before he signed on with us.
I’m not slagging him off. It is what it is. In his place I’d do the same. But say they offered him the job on 75% less than we are paying him would he take it?
So the club offered him a contract prior to the interest in him. Hope the people condemning the club for not 'offering a new contract' will atleast apologise for that... This is 100% on Duff imo.
Is that true though? If there wasn't a release clause then wouldn't he just resign? And whilst I appreciate that if that happened we potentially receive no compensation, I can't help feeling that by inserting a release clause we effectively communicate to the individual that we're happy for them to leave and to other clubs that they're available. If there's no clause then aren't we in a position where we can refuse a club permission to make an approach and force the manager to resign? Ultimately we may lose money but my view is that it may give us a little more control over the initial approach.
Not sure he’d have jumped at the Swansea job though? Be interested to know what sort of budget and scope he’d have been given at championship level had we been promoted but I’d like to think he’d have had a crack at it with us.
We have been through a lot of managers but this bloke takes the biscuit and I think has let us down badly more than any other! He asked for support from the fans and he got it then ups and fksoff! Why even bother coming at all if that’s as much as he was prepared to invest, one poxy year . Really hope he tanks, badly at Swansea and the fans don’t take to him at all, he deserves it!
To be honest, I get it most of the time. When Val left, I was disappointed but knew he was a mercenary that jumped ship and his interview after the playoff semi defeat pretty much confirmed it. With Duff, the issue for me surrounds all the quotes he has in his time here which now totally contradicts everything.
Was aware of interest in him at the end of last season but when asked about the Huddersfield interest after the playoffs we got the old I know nothing. Totally understand that he's got his career to think about but don't play the I'm different card because your clearly not. I personally think much better offers would have come his way if he'd stayed and got us promoted next season.
I'm pretty sure I read in a respectable news outlet the other day that there was a release clause. I genuinely don't think the club would have allowed him to leave if there wasn't.
