No announcement regarding the backroom team but I think it's safe to say Martin Paterson will end up there with him.
He's history now. In years to come his record will be of a nearly man at Oakwell. Had a crack and came up just short but didn't have the balls to see the job through.
Well probably not, no but most of us wouldn't do that either. I honestly don't get all the animosity towards him from people on here. It is a bit embarrassing to be honest. I am really gutted he has gone but it is just one of those things.
If we'd have finished below mid table (as that was where most expected) would you have renewed. The club are going in the right direction. Have done since conman left. Most people have found that reconnection. What would bring you back ?. Players and managers will always come and go. You get behind the team. Not individuals. 9k have renewed or become new Season ticket holders. A few on here said we wouldnt break 5k last season. We got around 8k afore the season started. Maybe you feel vindicated. By what. Maybe it's time to pack in altogether cos things like this happen all the time. The beginning of Last season I could go along with to a degree. But not this next one.
I get that. But he chooses the words he uses, and it's fair that people call him out. "I'm not here for 5 minutes" "I'm not aware of any interest from other Clubs" "We lick our wounds and go again" "We'll all have some time off, then start planning for next season" ......... "I learned of interest from other Clubs towards the latter end of the season" "I'm an ambitious character" "The Club did everything to try and make me commit" "You Reds" Seriously. Fk right off (Michael Duff, not you). That statement has really wound me up.
I think folk forget, you can still leave without a clause - it’s just negotiated instead. The clause usually means that it’s a set amount, in the club’s favour so he can’t leave on the cheap. But also means the manager has surety too. Clauses are ever only relevant if folk are successful at their job. Oulare’s clause was never bound to be activated
I honestly believe he meant a lot of that stuff at the time he said it. I don't think he has intentionally been deceitful as some are making out. Maybe I'm being naive but I bear him no ill will and hope he has a successful career.
I really enjoyed Michael whilst he was here. However, I was far more upset when Allan Clarke left for Leeds United in 1980 & Danny Wilson left for Sheffield Wednesday in 1998. The only thing I ask of the board, please don't appoint Steve Cotterill or Joey Barton.
I get all that. Its just how I feel. I didn't renew, and thought I'd see how the new board went about their business. Seems like it's more of the same. It's a good debate to have tbf - nice to speak with people without arguing amongst ourselves. I also think that I've gotten out of the habit a little bit - which probably is a major point too.
In 6 months time we'll be flying, Swansea will be struggling and we will have only vague memories of some fella called Duffy.
I like Neerav - he seems an honest and honourable man and a genuine fan. He's also put money into the club. He clearly feels let down but has been the bigger and better man per that statement for me. My personal worry is Khaled who always seems to me to talk a lot without actually saying anything.
Does anybody else wait for the calming words of Big Lil like me? If he's upset then the shits hit the fan, so we'll be reyt
The fact they offered to extend his contract is immaterial if the amount offered was considerably less than Swansea's offer. Its just my opinion but if a manager or player wants a release clause in their contract it shows a distinct lack of long term commitment to the club and for me should be a reason to look elsewhere. Because it just means any success will fleeting and never built on.
3 of em are in the championship. Other 2 will not have attracted as much interest as Duff given his previous achievements and how he turned our club from potential relegation fodder to play off finalists. His stock was high. Youngest team in the division. Clubs are more and more looking at bringing players through from lower leagues or premier cast offs. Rather than paying fortunes. And trying but failing to buy success. Reading Wigan Derby Just 3 examples. Coventry reached play offs thats a fact . But can you see a bigger club going for Mark Robin's. ? Certainly not Premiership imo.
