And to make things worse, however much I looked, I couldn't find the little blue twisty bag of salt in the crisp bag. (One for the oldies on here).
I found one of those twisty blue bags in my bag of crisps coming out of Wombwell baths as a nip. I got very excited and thought i'd won a fiver! Was disappointed when I opened it to discover salt
Hang on a minute, I'm getting my blue bags confused.. i was thinking of the tiny square bag (probably not big enough to fit a fiver in, admittedly) in the early 90s. What was the twisty blue bag?
I think the abuse Duff has had to take on this board has been disgusting. He was an employee of the club and we didn’t own him and he doesn’t have the long term commitment to the club that we have. Why should he? He gave us a fantastic season and he rebuilt the confidence in the club from a very low place to a very optimistic one. Thank you Mr Duff for what you have given us and I wish you well with your ambition. I hope it takes you to the top. I for one am very happy and grateful that you gave us a great year.
We make a barnsley women's team professional and then send them to dee dah land to play "home games ". Very professional
It was a little blue square, about 1-1.5 inches, filled with salt and then twisted closed. You unwrapped it and added your desired amount of salt.
I personally haven't seen anything I would consider 'disgusting abuse'. Granted I haven't read every comment, but from what I've read, the vast majority of criticism has been based on the disingenuous nature of some of the things he said. Which I think is absolutely valid. A lot of the things he said have proved to be at best disingenuous, at worst just out and out lies. IMO I think the fans are absolutely entitled to call him out for that.
What would you call it when someone calls him Judas? Fly by night? Lier? Have you ever been following a track and then something comes along and changes that path? I have and it doesn’t warrant all those names. I’m sure he intended to stay with us and something that he thinks is better for him came up. The abuse is totally over the top and the good things I said that he did for us are still true. Get a flipping grip.
The fly by night comments were valid. He said he wasn't a fly by night manager that was only here for 5 minutes. That's exactly what he's proved to be. He said he hadn't heard of any interest from other clubs when he was asked. Then in his statement he said he had been made aware of interest in the latter part of the season. He said he was here for the long haul, but he refused an extended contract on improved terms before Swansea approached us. So I totally understand why people might suggested he has lied. The judas comment is just throwaway. I've heard far far far worse.
Fans feel really let down and some take it harder then others, iam not condoning some of the comments but it's their way of showing how annoyed they are.
Duff's departure is not a surprise. More money, a higher division and a club with far more realistic ambitions of competing in the top half of the Championship. His comments about loyalty etc etc do now grate a bit, but this is football, they all kiss the badge and then bog off at the first opportunity. The last 15 years or more prove that Barnsley have only a very small chance of being competitive in the Championship. Financially they can't compete at that level and whilst money isn't everything, it's certainly the most important factor. Duff knows that. Even if he got Barnsley up, the likelihood of success is slim. In the modern era Barnsley are a strong League One club who flirt with the Championship, but struggle to achieve stability. Look at all the relegation scraps. One covid, freak season under Ismael doesn't change reality. Barnsley's lack of financial clout will always mean successful managers and players move on when bigger clubs come knocking. Fact of life. If you don't like that, then Barnsley isn't the club for you. Plus the Championship is probably the most unfair competition in sport considering parachute payments etc. How can a League One club getting promoted realistically hope to compete with Premier League clubs getting relegated with millions in parachute money? All this gradually wore me down and I stopped going to Oakwell. Along with the diving, cheating, time wasting and poor standards of officiating. These days I follow Worsbrough Bridge, a fiver to get in and often plenty of goals, sendings off and drama. Win, lose or draw, I always come away thinking I've had full value for money. That hasn't been the case at Oakwell for some time in my opinion. And that's all this is - an opinion. I'm certain many will disagree.
I'm happy and grateful he gave us a great year. He was the perfect fit. However I'm not happy that he lied to us. Of course we don't own him but don't you think he needn't have lied to us its quite simple really. Had he not intended to stay with us for the long haul he needn't have said that he would.
You’re getting 2 teams mixed up there. The Barnsley team moving to OLP have no affiliation with the club.
