Mortgage rates

Can’t you just apply the same logic to any individual or entity that profits from food, clothing etc? I would also suggest that parasitic and immoral are just as, if not stronger than scum, just more eloquent!

 

Why are they not? Started one when I was 20, retired 35 years later. Now granted, I was employed and my employers contributed a %, but I always paid in more. Mines done fine.

 

That's not a private pensions if your employers are contributing though.

 

No, because it's not realistic for everyone to farm their own chickens and sew their own clothes.

 

If the landlord built the house then fair enough, this is akin to people buying up loads of food to create a short supply and selling it at a huge mark up.

 

But house builders like redrow persimmon etc are making massive profits on selling houses, same as smaller builders making massive profits on build to sell. Not to mention hiking up house house prices. Are they as bad?

 

They will charge what they can, and what they can charge is determined by the prices of existing houses. And guess what practice reduces supply and increases prices for existing houses...

Plus at least housebuilders do something that the ordinary person can't. Landlords just insert themselves as a middleman and use someone else's labour to pay off their mortgage whilst inflating prices for those who want to buy.

Hoovering up houses that should be purchased by first time buyers - strangling the market and pricing out hard working folk who have been trying their best to save up for a deposit.

Those same people are now stuck on the renting treadmill, unable to increase their savings because they're paying a mortgage for a landlord. It's a disgrace.

Some even ride mobility scooters, which seems to be the worst thing in the world.

 

So Gary and Jenny decide to buy a property to rent out for there retirement plan, work there ****** off saving the deposit and stamp duty, a they scum too?

 

House builders dictate the housing market in a far more significant way than all the private landlords put together.
If focus was put onto their profit margins and addressed accordingly it would have held house prices down for far more people to be able to afford their own and not need to private rent.

Some poor young family are paying their mortgage for them whilst unable to save enough for a deposit of their own.

If Gary and Jenny want to save money then good luck to them. Gary and Jenny have clearly worked hard. Save it, look after it, then enjoy their retirement

 

What happens if that ‘poor young family’ have to rent as they have no family to live with?

If they've no family to live with, then they buy.

But sadly this is not an option due to house prices being inflated due to the property market being an absolute shambles thanks in part to Buy-To-Let Landlords and the Tory Government.

Give you an example, one of my best mates and his mrs clubbed together a few year ago and found an house to buy to rent out, absolutely stunning house too, they spent some more on it and now rent it out for todays current rate, they’ve both worked hard to have the opportunity to be able to do this so why on earth should they be tarred with a ‘scum’ tag like some on this thread have suggested ……you do know that a lot of people move about these days, work, relationships & general floaters in life, where do you think they are going to live? Hotels, hostels, tents…..maybe buy an house each time they move, the point is the rental market is a much needed industry and yes there are some bad landlords who leave there houses like utter **** but there are also lots of landlords who provide good safe warm homes for people that want to rent

Been watching, i'm Morgage free and it still hurts knowing how hard it must be for all them poor people, who thought at the time of buying were gunner be ok. Good luck everyone hopefully things improve soon.

 

I’m not going down the scum route but you keep saying that they worked hard to put down an initial deposit on a house that someone else is going to buy for them like that makes a difference to my views. I think people buying houses just to rent them out is contributing to the house price problem, whether that’s a rich person buying it out of their vast sum of money or someone who has worked hard buying it, it’s still all the same to the renter at the end of the day.

 

Yeah but do you see my point, the rental market does serve a great purpose to 10’s of thousands of people
