I've seen some of the comments but not part of the groups. Some proper helmets on there.

You can see it two ways, one we are so good at picking our new managers that other clubs decide to poach them every year or we strive on chaos and like to rebuild every year.your pick?? Me I would just like to avoid this drama just for one season ie have a successful campaign get promoted and keep our manager and playing squad together is this a pipe dream ??

Whoever the next manager is, I really hope that they ensure that fitness levels remain high in the team. Ironically the PE teacher was the most recent one who didn’t seem to think it was important, they were blowing out of their @r$e$ at the 60 minute point

Anyone made the pilgrimage down to Oakwell to watch training? Do they still let people watch the team train?

Ideally we'd have a head coach in place. Obviously. But while we haven't I'm sure the rest of the coaching staff are more than capable of conducting preseason training to the detriment of no one.

The previous manager has only been gone a matter of days. I know the board were aware before us, but it's still very little time. Let's cut them some slack while they try to sort this out.

Wasn't that more of a case that when Ismael left, he took the main sports science guy with him, and a bunch of other backroom staff. So there wasn't a fitness program setup for players early enough into pre-season?

Not sure if that was the case, but the team were struggling after 60 minutes in most games. I am sure that when Duff came in he criticised training as there was no structure or intensity

I read last night that Swansea's players were knackered after their first training session with Duff, who is prioritising extreme levels of fitness. Swansea fans seem impressed already. It's important that our new head coach has a similar approach.

Am sure Khaled said something about there being no training plans at start of pre-season, because of the various departures. But Schopp was nowhere near competent enough to make up the lost time. And Asbaghi was just as bad, which means Duff inherited a mess.

Let's face it, it's first day back. Bit of light jogging and report back on any niggles. I think any of us on here could probably oversee Day 1....

    It's true!

I'm actually doing it. Whilst I'm stood here on my phone, the lads are doing laps of Oakwell. I've set up a watersplash when they jump the railings from the top Ponte End turnstiles, down towards the lottery office. I've put a big inflatable slide outside the East Stand, and a gladiators style travellator outside the North. This will sort the wheat from the chaff. Aaron Leya Iseka has vomited twice; either he's been taking it easy in Turkey, or he has a stomach bug. We'll find out tomorrow which.

Don't forget this season though the break has only been 4 weeks not 7. Will help with base layers of fitness - how out of shape can professional sports people get in a month?

Tbh it's easy to run a training session that knackers the players out, I could do that! The proof of the pudding is in the eating, do they maintain their fitness levels throughout the season?

I'd have 'em measuring their VO2 MAX and hopefully check it against their last measure before the end of last season, anyone who's below it gets extra sprints.

For every week of rest, it takes two to recover to the same level of fitness. I'd expect most of the players would have had a rest week or two and actually been doing light training in preparation for the return.
