If Devaney gets it I'll back him. Probably longer than an external appointment.

I mean, I'll back whoever gets it. Except Barton.

I'd prefer someone with experience but that's no guarantee of success.

Little fact - one of his kids was born the same day as mine. It was a bit surreal walking around the maternity ward at BDGH and bumping into him.

Nothing against Devaney and I hope it works out but it's a bit underwhelming.
Given our performance last season he's instantly under pressure and he has no experience at all.
    A massive gamble if true.......

Yes if he's happy in his job and doing well, why would you want the pressure? The sands of time would be running down the moment he takes the managers job.

I'd back Disco, if he's judged to be the best appointee. He must have ambitions & he's been waiting in the wings, (slight pun intended) for a long while now.

He’s probably the one candidate that we’ve a chance at keeping hold of at the end of the season

My favourite random link when we were looking for a manager before was Paulo Di Canio. Can’t remember what season that was. That would have been wild

It would be another John Hendrie type disaster of an appointment.

You could argue that it's a "huge risk" to appoint anyone at all. In my opinion, it's less of a risk to appoint someone who knows all the strengths and weaknesses of our current playing staff and who is likely to continue to play the same style which took us to within a hair's breadth of promotion a few weeks ago.

He didn't get much out of the team in the last three matches of 2022. 9 conceded performance rubbish. I know the rest of the season was poor but there weren't any signs of improvement.

I wonder who was holding the reins prior to Duff's arrival. Because Duff was unhappy with the fitness levels when he first took training. You'd think that fitness in a professional football club would be a given.

I will obviously support Martin if he's given the job, but with the greatest respect I hope it isn't him. The spell he had at the back end of 21/22 against teams with nothing to play for was rubbish - yes, the team had given up long before then, but we looked absolutely hopeless in his few games. I'm not sure he's got what it takes to motivate this group to the same heights as last season, and we really should be looking to at least secure a play off position again.

Why is it taking so long if it’s Devaney?

He could have been in post and getting on with it by now. My view is that he is a great club man, essential part of the fabric and boot room but not best pick for manager/head coach.

but he may have learned so much last season from Duff and the players that he didn't know the previous year.
Depends if the players like and respect him

The silence is really deafening, if it is Devaney then why hasn’t it been announced? Is he in talks with Swansea about going there?

Why do we never have anything lined up, constantly reactive instead of being pro-active; look at Swansea for example….

If we're going on betting Dave Challiner has gone from 20/s to 6/1

Team was relegated, all loans cancelled, players perhaps exaggerating injuries (according to a source at the club at the time).

Look at the lineups of that last game against WBA. Hardly much to work with against a strong side.

We were already relegated by then. The players and fans had given up. It was a virtually impossible task to motivate those players at that time, when we all thought it was utterly pointless. I don't think it's fair to judge Devaney, simply based on the last three games of an appalling season.
