Did we only sign him on a 2 year deal!?

Pros with Devaney are that so far he's been a loyal Barnsley man. He MAY be easier to hold on to if the team do well and another club attempt to poach. He also worked with Duff and MAY have picked up some tactical/man management tips.
Disadvantages are he's completely inexperienced apart from a mini-holding role in the relegation season which didn't look great on the face of it (the team were poor and lacking in confidence but would a good manager, say the touted Warnock, have done better?)
Appointments from within can work but to keep last season's momentum going I'd plump for someone with an already decent record at this level (or maybe L1).
    Its a no from me.

Watching from the WSL last season, it was obvious that Devaney was the matchday manager. He did all the shouting, waving, hassling the 4th official, goading the oppo bench, organising the subs. Long-Haul obviously did all the important midweek stuff, but then just paced the technical area for 90 mins.

Whether Disco is up to that, I have no bloody idea....

They were all promoted from within as was Davey who despite being unpopular kept us in the championship & got us to an Fa cup semi final at Wembley , so promoting from within has worked well for us in the past .

    Wasn't it 2 years with a 1 year option?

Exceptionally harsh. He was blooding kids. Jason Sraha, Jordan Helliwell, Marsh, Moon, Wolfe, Ackroyd etc all played.

If he would’ve took one point with the teams he put out he would’ve pulled off a minor miracle

Yes we will miss those 7 goals and 2 assists from midfield if Connell leaves

This is my worry, yes the club organisation was a mess but it doesn't take much to get a bunch of supposed athletes at least to a required level of fitness when you have them in for training every day regardless of anything else. If he was the most senior member of the backroom staff, what was he doing??

Am I right in thinking Duff’s assistant Patterson is with us still? Could we be playing games with Swansea? Leaking to the press that we’re happy to go with Devaney as head coach & Patterson as his assistant in order to get them to pay compo for Patterson rather us having to pay him off when we bring in a new managerial team would make sense.

Connell is far more than just that. He's the absolute heartbeat of the team. Essential to the way we tick.

Nicky Eaden. Think they're a good group of players , known about before this season talking to opposition parents, so hard to know exactly how much input he had But be great to have him managing Barnsley at some point

Yep.. but no fee, so he may be one of those that Khalid mean't when he said some would bw allowed to run their deals down. So stays this season and be free to walk next June. Likely to re-sign if we went up tho i'd guess.

But everyone is for sale for the right offer.

Hardly, he went straight from player to gaffer with the players he pissing around with. Devaney different situation, I'm not against him being next coach, but they need to back him decent replacements.

Yes, but Disco is no less qualified than any of them to be promoted to first team manager. Your assertion that Devaney as Head Coach will be a "disaster" is as baseless as it is absurd.

Yes, because that's exactly how they operated when employing Duff!

Khaled - "Sorry Julie-Ann, I know we went out of our way last year to bag our first choice manager, but this close season I just can't be arsed. So we're just going to appoint Devaney, and then I'm off to Mykonos for the summer. See ya!"

Couldn't agree more, one of the biggest things wrong with football at the minute is stats. If the numbers aren't there, write the player off.
