I understand that but cricket still needed to provide access and welcome those players from those backgrounds when they wanted to play in this country. Football is behind the curve on that, though take your point that it's hard to make a proper comparison overall.

There are people in western society that are, though you can't legitimately say 'western society is racist and sexist.' On the contrary, there is a case for notable eastern societies to be considered racist, given their inherent caste systems. Indeed, in India it is largely believed that the darker the skin, the lower down in society/inferior you are. This wasn't imported by the empire, it's existed for centuries throughout the generations and is ingrained in that society. There are also to this day segregations between the religions, for example a Sikh girl will be disowned if she marries a Muslim or a black man. It's shocking, but 'western society is racist.'

The vast majority of society aren't and are welcoming. Over a million people came here legally last year of a visa. That's a welcoming nation.

One hundred per cent agree, JT. This report has conflated together too many issues in one: racism, elitism and the gender issue. It is more than ironic that the ECB, as itself an elitist organisation probably still imbued with the 'Gentlemen and Players' culture and public school populated should make Yorkshire the scapegoat when the report makes it clear that these are issues throughout the game and the counties. I don't have the data, but would be fairly sure that, over the past say fifty years, Yorkshire can demonstrate more of its players coming from state school backgrounds than any of the Home Counties teams. In imposing these sanctions, they have set an impossible bar which could destroy the game at county level. Let's say that the Essex enquiry proves cases of racism, or an investigation into Surrey, or Middlesex demonstrates elitism, how are the sanctions to be fairly calibrated? If I were the Yorkshire lawyer, I would appeal straight away and wait for some of this other dust to settle, rather than just accept scapegoat status for all the other counties. ECB have been elitist again in imposing this precipitate sanction against only Yorkshire. They should have waited for a compete enquiry across all counties before deciding how to act. We should appeal this straight away.

The report is ok but has taken some very malicious conclusions. See the bit about how the Hundred has not been welcomed, or how those who bring steel bands into grounds are not welcomed, and those people are somehow part of the problem. As for the classism, I am not sure what the ECB is supposed to do about schools selling off pitches or barely teaching an hour of sport a week. Certainly putting the whole sport behind a 60 quid a month paywall has not helped- and things like that are not mentioned at all. It is a shame because Cricket is a damm good sport, in need of some reform for sure, yet this has to be a little more critical thinking than simply- Eton vs Harrow is racist because...empire?

I would be very cynical and suggest the main bits the report goes after are the bits (old clubs, county long-form games, Colligate and School matches) which are least commercialised- whereas the bits that are ultra-commercialised like the Hundred are put out there as the only possible future, and if you disagree well you might be a racist and a sexist!

Andrew Strauss there, blaming the atmosphere on folk who "wouldn't normally come to Lords". No mention of the scenes in the Long Room from the MCC toffs.

There's obviously absolutely no elitism in cricket is there.

The only problem with appealing this is that it'll drag on even further.
Even now the exact nature of the points deductions aren't finalised which is pathetic. Someone pointed out that we could have actually won the T20 blast before the deductions are ratified.
FWIW I'd prefer just taking the hit this year and blood some youngsters instead of Gough's useless overseas signings. Move on.

Our bigger problems now are sorting the debt and shoddy management.
Gough has no worthwhile management experience at this level, God only knows why he was appointed, and it looks like between he and Gibson they cant motivate/coach/ keep the players fit imho. Add in a ceo from Wasps who led them into administration and it looks a ragbag to me. Looking at the board and ceo its hard for me to see who will hold Gough and Gibson to account so they may be hard to shift.
On the upside three fab hundreds from the youth v Gloucester. Even tho' their bowling was crap, they lads put em away and its great for their confidence. More to come hopefully.

What else would you have done. They wrongly and unashamedly in my view. Got shut of All backroom staff irrespective of/if any wrongdoings. I hope the hierarchy were taken to the cleaners.

Lots of murk here Hooky. YCCC fined 500k for deleting evidence which says something.
Of course the backroom staff thing was wrong, and I think (hope) they have been paid out through employment tribunals or the like. They all did sign an anti Rafiq letter ( as I understand it), and Patel ( another **** signing based on a wanky peerage) sacked them without recourse to a grievance/complaints procedure, which was actually one on the major issues with Rafiq's case.
Long and short is cricket is in the Victorian age.
The recent ICC report will change nowt. They haven't got the balls to deal with one of the heads of the Hydra, the MCC, who I read yesterday in a paper were 'the Guardians of the game" lol

Fair enough. I've just read up on the subject of the letter. signed by 14 employees. (As basically a cry for help as the article puts it.) I tbh was not aware until you just mentioned it. I can see how it can be interpreted in different ways. Basically trying to defend themselves from accusations and it having the opposite effect. Murky as you say.

Patel was out of his depth.
A bit cruel I know, but I have him as an over promoted social worker.
The ******** that he's in the Lords and happens to like cricket therefore his judgement is sound is the usual ********.
Actually I reckon he was a bit of a stooge and is partly the reason why he packed.
That said there's quite bit of stuff out there that suggests he was under pressure from outside sources.
The deletion of tell-tale documents and the subsequent 500k fine for doing so says a lot.
Anyroadup, Yorks have carried the can for a lot of other counties.
Lets hope Essex get a similar scrutiny.
    Time move on .

Out of his depth !!, have you seen his career resume , and he’s a senior director of the ECB since 2016 , if anyone was qualified to look into the issues at Yorkshire it was him ,wether you think he did a good job or not is a matter of opinion but out of depth he certainly wasn’t
