Could also depend on how many of those Norwich players the board suggested they'd probably be selling! I don't claim to have any inside knowledge whatsoever, but there are loads of reasons other than historical size why you might think that a certain level is probably about the limit for any particular club or business at a certain time.
Bolton's signing this afternoon of Will Forrester from Port Vale (their fifth of the Summer so far) is the 85th transfer from another EFL or Premier League club to a League 1 club in this window. Barnsley have made no such signings, zero, and that's despite having lost 6 of the 18 man squad from Wembley, including 4 of the starters.
What players of that ilk are gunna sign for us whilst we are managerless.... We are prepared apparently, so.. take that as you wish
Best thing the board could do now is to sell Cadden, Connell, Collins, Benson and anyone else with ability. Might get 5 mill for the lot. With previous money for Duff, Andersen etc they will have recouped all their money from the recent cash injection. Then they can get a geography teacher from Uzbekistan in as manager and buy 6 blokes from non -league for 10 bob each. They've already got the season ticket money in the bag so all those fans who bought one are now trapped due to loyalty. Jobs a good un.
They repaired the damage with fans once after Conway’s departure with the new board set up. If they let things slide again they’ll have a hell of a job to turn it around again. ST money might be in the bank for this next season but folk will need convincing all over again come next March….
Fans will lap it up simply because of loyalty. There will be lots of folks sucked in because of wembley and a good season of course but lots get sucked in by sound bites, early bird 'bargains' and the expectation of some continuity. The fans are taken for fools and very often their loyalty, whilst genuine and sincere is exploited for commercial gain.
Genuinely think that without the new board restructure last summer we’d have struggled to shift even 5k season tickets. The same scenario could be a possibility next summer if we get things badly wrong again. Hasten to add that I’ll be there regardless cos I’m beyond hope by now lol. Can understand folk’s general disillusionment though. We need a positive couple of weeks to lift the mood for sure.
I read this in the voice of the 'Suits you, sir' guy from The Fast Show. Made a good, pertinent post even better.
I think anyone who claims to know what this big news is, well, they’re liars. It’s amazing how many times I’ve seen people on this board claim they knew something was happening AFTER it happened. The fact is, following BFC is 95% disappointment. 55% of that disappointment comes from the club itself, making stupid slogans like “judge us by our actions” and then proceeding to flog anything of any value. Telling fans that we have no need to sell, but then choke at the first sign and sell. I’ll admit, I get very little joy from being a Barnsley fan. It’s mostly let down after let down, pain, long suffering, depressing as sin and just all too predictable season in, season out. The Duff news was a big let down, mads leaving? Not so, I think we all knew it was happening and part of me was happy for him. Kitchen to Cov? I’d be very disappointed. What worries me is how the club just lay there and accept it and tell us all “there’s nothing we could have done” yet other clubs constantly hold their nerve and refuse to get bullied.
With the lack of information in the media you'd assume it's gotta be some left field appointment. If it was a Moore, Wilder etc. It surely would have been picked up by some journo somewhere.
I'd agree that Khaled was a bit daft to hint at the big news so far ahead of the time when he could reveal it. Not least because it gives ammunition to the idiots on social media to make ridiculous sarky comments like "ooh the big news is Khaled's avvin a full English for his breakfast today. That's the big news, typical tinpot Barnsley" . It drives me mad when people search for every tiny opportunity to run the club down. To be fair to Gally I think he only gets involved when he hears people talking absolute b****cks about it and tries to put the record straight. So fair point about Khaled needing to be more circumspect but then when he says nothing he's constantly being bombarded with requests for information and hints about whats going on only for some to extrapolate absolute nonsense from it. There's a lot of people on here an twitter/facebook who demand to be treated like grown ups but insist on acting like infants.
