BREAKING: Forest Green have appointed Hannah Dingley as caretaker manager. She is the first woman to manage a men's senior team in England's top four divisions.
Wouldn’t fancy being a Forest Green fan, they seem more interested in being diverse than successful, especially after last season. Why wait until now to ditch big Dunc ? Yes they had a lousy season, but I think it was more to do with them being such a titchy poor side than anything to do with the manager.
Dunno, I guess they will argue they can achieve both. I just think it’s brilliant that they have some core principles, that they just won’t compromise on. If they achieve the things they want to achieve as a Club, they will have done it without selling their soul. Absolute kudos to em for that, IMO.
Not sure what difference being female or male in the role would be. If they have the same badges and qualifications then surely they are equally qualified? I could be wrong about the same badges etc obviously, but if they have the same qualifications then why not. Good luck to them.
Ironically, whilst we all congratulate on FGR not being scared to make a bold step (even if it shouldn't have been), I can only imagine how some of our fans would react on here if we hired her. "Care more about media & branding", "cheap option", "same old board" etc etc.
Fans will start getting annoyed with the owner. He's been interviewed loads lately on TV trying to be like a mini celebrity. Now isn't the time when he's just overseen a relegation.
If it’s the right person, with the right quals for the job then I have no issues. Until a female manager breaks the mould then we will never know, the only way they can prove their ability is to be given the opportunity.
https://www.fgr.co.uk/news/dingley-named-caretaker-head-coach They had to mention her being the only woman. The appointment would have meant more if that fact was ignored, as it would normalise it more.
It’s a historic moment, and another tiny step towards gender equality in football. Of course they’re going to mention it.
Never said anything about the female interim manager, I was querying them sacking their manager now rather than at the end of the season, and that football seems secondary to other activities with them a lot of the time.
You said that they seem more interested in being diverse than successful, that to me seems to be a negative comment about the appointment. If I have read it wrong then I apologise.
No I meant their promotion of their off field activities, carbon foot print , vegan food etc, it seems like the football is a by product sometimes.
