His name has been mentioned a few times. I can say who my source was now he's gone to Bristol Rovers. Luke Thomas. (He actually thinks Devaney will get the job as a cheaper option)
The same guy who said that everyone at Barnsley FC thought Clarke Oduor was the most talented football player at the club.
To be fair to him, there'll be plenty of talented players who just either don't apply themselves properly in training or it doesn't translate into matchdays. So he could be right with Oduor. It's a shame about Luke Thomas leaving, i always thought he was a good, direct player to have who drives with the ball and gets the team up the pitch. But i don't blame him for wanting to be closer to his family and going to a club where he'll be a guaranteed starter.
invested since birth? I've just won the PL and Champions League on FM23 with Barnsley. Can I apply? I'm not a PE teacher.
Didn't pull many trees up at Huddersfield although in fairness he (or should I say they as he always comes as a package deal with his brother) did ensure their survival in the Championship. Pompey got shut of him in our division. It seems he sweeps in to a Club as a breath of fresh air and starts fairly brightly but then results start to drop off and he never lasts long enough to turn things round once the results tail off. Given our track record of managerial retention - if the incumbent is good they get poached otherwise they get sacked - I wouldn't have thought his track record at Huddersfield or Pompey should weigh too heavily against him.
Whilst at Lincoln Cowley and his brother (they come as a pair) did a fantastic job in both galvanising a team and the community. They changed a team that was going nowhere and never was to a good winning machine arguably as importantly they reconnected the local community with the club by getting out there and mixing with the locals and winning them over. On face value it would seem that is what we need but they insist on full control of everything related to the footballing side of a club. I know previously they were considered before going to Huddersfield and Cowley was not interested as he wouldn’t be given full control. Whether that can be gotpast now I’m not sure.
Personally I thought he was not given anywhere near enough time at Huddersfield. Looked to be turning the corner when he was sacked. His time at Pompey looked like a massive underachievement on the face of things, although there may have been things going on behind the scenes that I have no idea about.
If I remember correctly he got off to a cracking start there but they fell away badly towards the end of the season.
It's that stability which we seem to lack for various reasons. As you say who's to say if he could have turned things around at Huddersfield? Their Chairman's statement regarding his dismissal at Huddersfield perhaps hinted at behind the scenes issues when he said "We have a different vision for the way we operate the Club, and how our ambitions can be achieved.”
I think it will be Devaney.. This is my point of view, I may be wrong though. Devaney was sent to learn from Duff so in the future the board had a back up plan and a cheaper option if Duff left
Think fell away badly is harsh TBH. Started like a train lifting them out of relegation places but from there wasn’t as consistent and was more like win one lose/draw a couple etc.
