Half full. I don't think there's a manager in the world, including chequebook Pep, who could guarantee success. Hopefully he'll replicate what he's achieved at Tampa. If we get the recruitment right over the summer we've a decent chance.
Half full to full. I don't for the life of me believe that a professional football club with a multi-million pound turnover takes a "punt" on their head coach. Huge amounts of metrics, research and other indicators will be taken into account when making an appointment. Even Schopp wasn't a "punt". His stats were pretty impressive, and I'm assuming that he interviewed well. It's just that even an extremely well thought through decision has the potential to not work out in something as unpredictable and volatile as football.
I knew nowt about the bloke before today, but all I've read gives indications as to why we'd have gone for him. Looks like the outcome of a thorough and well researched process to me. As with all manager appointments, you don't know till you get going, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he's got to offer.
It's always a punt. You can make a case for any of our previous appointments, in which case you could argue it's never a punt. But look at what eventually turns out. You can't tell who may or may not succeed. It's a punt. Always a punt. You can try and reduce the percentage failure with statistics and experience and other magical ingredients. Still a punt.
I see what you're saying. I guess it depends on your definition of a "punt". What you've described, I'd call a calculated risk, which is realistically as good as you're ever going to get in football.
Come on guys why not get behind him let’s go full in what is there to lose. He has played over 500 games in the league so he is not wet behind the ears. Let’s be the 12 th man like it was towards the end of last season COYR
This survey can't be right. According to churton everyone on this board is a massive bunch of whingers and the fan base is in 'meltdown'.
Somewhere between half full and full. The more I look into the appointment the more I like it. Can't shake the feeling that he'll be off in a year though, one way or the other. So even with the best will in the world it's frankly difficult to care too much.
To be fair, it's quite easy to form that opinion until you realise it's a select band of people posting the same thing again and again across multiple threads. And as for the level of "discussion" on Twitter and Facebook....
Half full to full..he's young and obviously has ideas for team formations and style of play that he's developed in Tampa. also lots of experience at our level and comes across as confident and a decent person. as always it's can he get the players on board and will he get the backing he's probably been promised..as always tho we will be behind our team and supporting them in the new season.
Most confident I’ve felt since we learned Duff was going to leave. So far only Mads has left from the playing squad and we knew that was going to happen. Others might go, so be it. We go again. I’m just ready to go again now and will be chomping at the bit in another month.
I've had a slurp full, I think. Nothing's ever guaranteed when it comes to choosing a head coach but he’s got a great record, he’s got Tampa to be the most successful they've ever been, seems like a great character, and Tampa fans seem to be gutted he’s leaving. On top of that it's seems his playing style is similar to ours last season so should be able to pick up where Duff left. A lot to like.
