I would say Phillips fits the definition of a 10 in that system. I'd disagree with the notion that Kitching becomes the centre of the back 3 though - he loves to carry the ball forward in the way the other two CBs are allowed to do. Maybe Kacper would be a better fit for that central role?

I reckon Kacper will ghost into midfield.

Thanks for this. Echoes what the chap was saying on the Red All Over video. Some very obvious reasons why he fits what we're trying to do, and is very much in line with building on last season, rather than ripping up and starting again. Recruitment is essential now. Keeping hold of Cadden, Williams, Kitch and our middle three is going to be absolutely key, as well as solid recruitment to replace Mads and Bobby Thomas..

    thanks for posting.
the more I read about our new guy the more I'm thinking about what a great but of recruitment by khaled.
certainly left field. seems to fit with our playing philosophy and he should bring continuity re tactics and game approach.
Proof of tbe pudding in the eating of course but, again, Khaled appears to have gone about the job quietly, patiently and efficiently.
    good job Khaled lad.
I'm guessing all the moaning whining detractors might be changing their tune come January 2024.

The problem with all these up and coming managers is they use us to get in the shop window. We've more chance of hanging onto an established manager. A Wilder isn't taking the Barnsley job to better himself.

Whereas Collins is taking the job to get back into English football. Invariably if he's doing well we might be moaning again come January.

To not purchase a striker who has scored a few at this level would be plain stupid. Even if its a 500k plus striker.. its a must. IMHO we would have been promoted last season with a decent goalscorer in the ranks. Its false economy not to really, yep I know theyre not easy to come by but id sooner have 1 bona fide goalscorer than the seemingly 2 or 3 'could be' strikers we seem to purchase.

Williams at right CB... Always done well there. With Cotter raiding up and down the right is an option..
Plus we have Cundy McCarthy Kacpar Moon and Ponty Cols lad, so we're not short on numbers.. but maybe a bit of quality.

I'd get a boner if we signed a proper striker for 500k.

Cautious optimism is the order of the day for me. I think it's important people don't get carried away, either end of the spectrum. There's plenty to be positive about, but he's still an unknown quantity in EFL mgmt terms and it's very difficult to gauge the comparison in standard. The two-year deal is interesting to me, which no one really seems to be talking about. I wonder what the reasons for that are, and whether we've agreed to any release clause?

I do worry slightly about those CBs you've just listed tbh. Although it's unfair of me to comment on Kacpar, and maybe he's a solid replacement.

Its mental when you think about it. We used ti pay 3, 4, 500k back in early 90s... 30 years on and we think 500k is a unreachable amount. 1.5m is still our record signing... barmy. Before anyone jumps in and reminds me we dont wanna be the next 'bury', i hate that phrase, as if if spending way too.much and going bust and not spending a penny are the only 2 options... there is something in between... speculating to accumulate, like Luton.

I agree. I don't know why we don't look to raid teams by the scoring charts like we did with Winnall. I haven't followed it as religiously last few years but a club like us should be looking at the top goal scorers in League 2 and putting bids in.

Are we making more money than we were in the 90s though?

Easier said than done, innit. By the time someone is top scorer in League 2, it's often too late. Transfer fees are usually out of our league, and the player is probably looking at Championship rather than L1. If you take the top 3 from last season, they're all now in League 1, so we've no chance really.

It's wages mate.. that's the big difference. The vast majority of the club's money now days. They're paid too much even a our level. The top of the tree is obscene and getting worse with the Saudis now chipping in.
