We are miles behind in the market already. Derby tonight have announced Sonny Bradley and Connor Washington. I appreciate they spend money they don’t have and a big side. Pompey have signed nine players. Charlton have recruited really well with Alfie May and Harry Isted. They look like they’re going for it alongside Portsmouth. Bristol Rovers look happy to spend cash on wages as they’ve brought in three very good players at this level. Bolton, Lincoln, Wigan and Oxford all strengthening and very active. Even Fleetwood have brought in some decent players. I’m not a doom and gloomer but as much as we have a decent nucleus, we’ve lost six loanees and Mads Andersen. We’ve brought in Hartlepool second choice keeper and a non league defender.
Has to be at least two key additions next week, as you say we are already behind. A top end league 1 central defender and striker bare minimum next week
I appreciate Collins will want the final say but he’s not gonna be at Oakwell until Tuesday. Hopefully Khaled has been running stuff through and got targets all but signed.
The positivity of last season just drained. Even after the Wednesday loss, everyone was still psyched for this season. Now, it’s a joke. Even the whole friendly situation has been a shambles. I’ve never know us cancel / rearrange plans for so many friendlies in one pre season.
Took us so long to get a new head coach in. Made no progress in the window. The squad is weaker than last season. It is quite worrying tbh.
Yawn, yawn - we're behind everybody. So what if we are? There are plenty of available players still to consider and maybe even some that are contracted elsewhere that we might try to tempt away. Anybody would think there were only about 50 available players each close season and we've missed out on getting any of them. Happy to wait to see what happens here.
Fair summary. There's now been approaching 100 players brought in by League 1 clubs from other EFL/Prem clubs this window. We have brought in 0. All isn't yet lost but we need to progress a long way in a short space of time. The biggest learning point from last season was surely that despite having an excellent coach it took time to get players integrated, by which point Plymouth were pretty much uncatchable.
This time last year, we had already signed McCarthy, Cadden, Connell and Cundy with Norwood joining on 16th. And we still started shockingly slow.
We’ve a good base of a squad assuming we don’t sell anyone else but definitely need at least 3 or 4 more signings, particularly a defender and at least one striker (assuming Iseka will be going out on loan again). Hope we’re not starting the season short on numbers than scratching around at the end of August trying to sort loans.
Why are you so desperate for us to fail mate? Every single post you'll find something negative. The board got it spot on last season. They deserve the chance to do so again without this constant barrage.
We needed far more last summer than we do this. Yes we are a few bodies short but we've got 1 or 2 coming back from injury, should hopefully see a better contribution from the likes of Russell and Cotter and would expect a couple of the youngsters to feature more Fully expect we'll bring in a couple over the next few weeks
