I'm not a doom and gloom merchant but is something going on behind the scenes? Does anyone know anything? It's just the cancelled friendlies, behind closed doors friendlies. Silence from the players. Silence from the board. No update on the "big news". I've been praising the board of the efforts of offering duff a better contract (something we rarely do). I'm just a bit worried and confused You reds!
I might be wrong but i would suspect the “big news” has been and gone or fell through. Good few months since it was mentioned now.
I thought Gally knew what this news was, or at least hinted at that?..... I would hope that he's not also full of s***e like the CEO
Nowt to worry about honestly Re friendlies. I just feel a little for Guisley. Bear in mind we have been accommodating in the past with friendlies with em. And like most. I think Collins wants to crack on from day one with introductions and assessment on the training pitches. Not waiting to watch a game of 2 halves with different players. Big news still to be announced when concluded. And only those on the inside will be privy to that until and if completed. Rightly so.
I'm sure he hinted several times that it was a new lease for the ground. Which is odd because when I emailed Oakwell community assets ltd (or holdings, I forget) who own the ground they categorically stated that they hadn't even made a decision on what they wanted to do with Oakwell yet and nothing had changed
Why would that be odd. They would not disclose any private information. They haven't made a decision says it all. But it doesn't mean discussions aren't ongoing. Which whatever it's about. is the actual case.
Cancelled a friendly because we've probably got too many games in the calendar, there's a meltdown on twitter (as usual) folk asking why have we sold players if we can't put out a team..... Where do we get these loons from.
The feel good of last season has gone. We arrange friendlies that at short notice fans get told they can no longer go to, which is a pain for those who have booked an hotel (like for Fylde weekend at seaside) or pub coaches. We've not heard from our new head coach, but he's talking to American press. We've not heard from Stead and whatever job title he's got. Our players have been back a fortnight and we've not heard a peep from them as to how pre season training is going. We wasn't told Disco and Harban were in charge when we didn't have an head coach and we've not heard from them how pre season training is going. We lost our head coach who shouted loyalty and he poached our assistant. Two guys would rather sign for teams that finished well down the league compared to us. Inexperienced out of contract youngster not rushing to sign back up quickly. Half a dozen of our regular starters have a year left on their contracts. All three players we've signed hardly get you excited for what's ahead.
But surely training and a game of two halves is better than just an assessment on the training pitch? That argument doesn't make sense
Because when I asked what the OCA's preferred options for the future were they answers in a way that suggested that they weren't even close to deciding if they wanted to sell the land, keep the land, do a short term lease, a long term lease etc yet Gally has, for a while, suggested that the club is close to finalising a deal which is on favourable terms. I'd say that if a deal has been negotiated and is close to being signed that they do know what they intend to do with it even if they haven't got a deal over the line yet.
Speak for yourself, my feel good of last season hasn't gone. We'll be up there again. There ain't half some bed wetting going on on here
My personal view is that from a footballing point of view I can't see why why shouldn't be like we were last season IF we sign a good replacement for mads. And should really be in a better place if we sign better players than the departing loanees who for the most part were a bit ****. The manager. Meh. I didn't have much of an opinion on duff when he came and I don't on him either. I don't see the point in getting excited or annoyed by managers we sign these days, I'll just wait and see how he does. Duff was a good manager but wasn't AS good as some made him out to be anyway so it isn't like Collins has some perfect godlike figure to follow. The negative over the summer for me though has been the absolutely awful communication from the club and how unprofessional and disorganised we've looked. Friendlies cancelled and rearranged left right and centre, tickets not sent out. The communication really is awful and someone needs to address that big time. I'm fairly confident about the new season, or confidentish anyway but I can see why some feel the good feeling has been eroded because the club really haven't helped themselves. There's been very little come out of the club to try to build on last season and instead the silly mistakes they've made have chipped away at it. Again it's something they need to learn from
Sorry but it does to me. He needs to hit the ground running. How many on here have said we need to get someone in asap. To make assessments. A kick about will show him little at this early stage. I very much doubt training would have taken place on the day of the game if played other than a few exercises.
All these bed wetting comments are becoming as tiresome as the supposed extreme negativity Can't argue with that assessment
Of course they'll know what they intend to do. And bear in mind I don't know exactly what those intentions are. The only thing I would say is. Khaled imo should have left the subject alone. Till finalised. If indeed an agreement is reached. But he is convinced itll be exciting news if it happens. Time will tell. But to send emails based on heresay (regardless of Gally's thoughts) and expect an insight is never going to happen.
