Today is the third time I’ve had a ticket for England v Australia, and the third day I haven’t seen a ball bowled. I’m a jinx. My first was when, in 2019, given the option of a day 4 ticket for £75, or a day 5 ticket for £25, I went for day 5. Day 4 was one of the greatest ever days of test match cricket, with Ben Stokes’ heroics. What an idiot I was. The second time was a one day international that was cancelled cos of the pandemic. And then today, rained off. They might, if they’re lucky, get half an hour in at the end of the day, but there’s only so much standing I can do, cos of my knackered spinal cord, so with the rain coming down and a thunderstorm on the way, we’ve called it a day. I did see a Young Australia side, featuring Hayden, Langer and Gilchrist, beat Sussex in 1995 when I lived in Brighton, but that’s as close as I’ve got. My 4th and 5th tickets are tomorrow and Monday, so fingers crossed we’ll get a full day tomorrow. The game could be over with a day and a half’s play, so hopefully we’ll get a result…and hopefully it’s a good one. Having said that, I have a lot of pain around what’s left of my gallbladder, so it would be just my luck to spend days 4 and 5 back in hospital…
I don’t know how cricket works, if they don’t play does it go on an extra day? I want to be able to park again after work so I’m hoping not.
The student who moved in next door last week will be pleased. He put his car on their very narrow drive for the first time and scratched both door panels on the driver’s side with quite deep gouges. No idea why he kept driving forward! He did say he had only just passed his test though. That’s the second student in two years to do it.
I think there has to be less than 10 overs bowled in the day and then you get a full refund. Happened to us a couple of times.
If 15 overs or less are bowled full refund. Between 15.1 and 30 overs 50% refund. After that no refund. I’m on way home myself and just getting into Barnsley it’s sunny. Hope it carries on raining in leeds.
They’re back out and have scheduled 31 overs. Funny that. Cut off for 50% refund is 30 overs. So I see no cricket and don’t get any money back, which is about my luck. I couldn’t have stood around for another 3 hours though. My legs and feet are still going a bit crazy. Since my spinal cord op, 20 years ago, my legs have constantly felt like they are vibrating. There’s no external tremor, but it feels weird. If I’m tired, or have been on my feet for any length of time it goes crazy.
