Who’s your favourites.? Me.. 10. Neil Peart 9. Tommy Ramone 8. Jerry Nolan 7. Buddy Rich 6. Sheila E 5. Charlie 4. Steve Hands 3. Joey Waronker 2. Clem 1. Ringo Baboom Tish..
Ian Paice. John Bonham Prairie Prince Carl Palmer Cozy Powell Neil Peart Billy Cobham Nick Mason Andrew McCulloch
Karen Carpenter In a 1975 Playboy magazine readers' poll, Carpenter was voted the best rock drummer of the year – edging out Led Zeppelin's John Bonham, The Who's Keith Moon and The Beatles' Ringo Starr. “I am both humbled and embarrassed at this tremendous recognition,” she said during a TV interview. She was quite good tbf. And the best voice to have ever lived imo. Tbh mate after my confession of being a frustrated Drummer. I'd struggle to name my favourites as there is so much talent out there. But I was impressed with John Freese. At Glastonbury..But at the other end of the scale, band wise. my first impressions of Greatness was a guy that played with a band called Mickeys Monkeys. I dont know if he went on to bigger things. his bandmate John Parr. Best guitarist bar none on the club scene at the time. Also a guy who played the drums for John Parr last time I saw him at Newcastle Metro arena called , Bobby Arechiga.(red indian heritage) Who I first saw with Strongheart. A 3 piece American band who settled over here in the Donny/Rotherham Area. (Brilliant band btw all their own stuff)
Dean Ormston Have the pleasure of listening to him close up on a regular basis. Plays Mowtown beats with the strength of Thor putting war hammers through sheet metal. Pretty awe inspiring.
Gavin Harrison Neil Peart Bill Bruford John Bonham Jaki Liebezeit Paul Ferguson Roger Taylor Andy Anderson Larry Mullen Jnr Kenny Morris
I wanted to squeeze Ian Paice into my list, but couldn't bring myself to drop any of my top ten. He's definitely my number 11 though.
It’s hard innit? I left out some obvious greats, trying to cover bases. I can’t believe I left out Topper? Can I start this thread again.?
1. Mike Portnoy 2. Neil Peart 3. Dana Carey 4. Todd Sucherman 5. Gavin Harrison 6. Tommy Aldridge 7. Charlie Benante 8. Justin Foley 9. Lars Ulrich (back in the day his influence on metal drummers was huge). 10. Ringo - He has to be in there. I’m a huge Beatles fan and again, his influence on drummers around the globe since the 60’s is unmatched. Absolutely nowhere near being the best technically, but, his feel for a song and his swing is incredible.
Brilliant. Ringo all day for me. Same reasons. It’s also about who you could handle being in a band with. That’s why Moon & Bonham aren’t on my list. as much fun as that might’ve been..
This was/is Bobby mate. But I'd forgot to mention. The greatest percussionist in the world.( as he was billed at the time) . Saw him several times sometimes on his own. Every percussion instrument you could think of filled the stage. But also with his own big band. Eric Delaney. Incredible musician all genres.
I was just looking through my list and realised I’d missed out Moon and Thomas Lang . I love Bonham but I just don’t have him in my top ten *today* it’ll probably change depending on my mood haha
