Sorry buts it’s the same doom and gloom EVERY pre-season. Last season was going to be awful and a struggle according to the more “glass half empty” members of the BBS. 86 points later and we only didn’t go up because of bent officials.

We definitely need reinforcements don’t get me wrong. And I’d rather get business done early. But of the 3 of the Wembley XI we’ve sold one that we were always going to sell as he’s far too good for 3rd tier footy. The other 2 weren’t ours to lose and Thomas was never going to play another season in League One.

People are perfectly entitled to be worried if they choose (I think we’ll be reyt, doesn’t mean we will be of course!), but talk of bottom half finishes / relegation battles is fully mental.

Aren't they inseparable? The scoreline and the pre season troubles are hardly passing strangers,

What does a team get out of losing 9-1?

And our team in particular? What was the point of that match for us?

Perhaps it taught us that we're in need of leadership.

Collins N has a big job on his hands. Was he there in charge today?

True to a point. But I think an ok set of players with a good head coach / manager will do better than a good set of players with a poor head coach / manager.

I have concerns about our defence, but we have a strong midfield and two forwards that got double figures last season.

There’ll be something there for the coach to work with, but he’ll need to out coach the likes of Warne and Evett to get the better of them, like Duff did.

The big problem isn't the 1-9 scoreline against one of our biggest local rivals as bad as that may be even if it was a pre season friendly. The big problem is that once again our preseason appears to be descending into a total shambles with games called off and switched to being played behind closed doors at short notice and retention and recruitment going backwards with quality players who have already left or are on the point of leaving being replaced by free transfers from non league football. On top of this we are subject to an investigation from the EFL over board room chair swapping and non disclosure of who exactly owns and runs the club.
Once again the club appears to have taken a step forward then taken several backward steps. Its twenty years since the trauma of administration and despite a few notable bright spots along the way we've seen the club stagnate at best and at worst embark on a downward spiral. The club don't appear to be able to hold onto its talent longer than it takes for the first offers for them to come in. Luca may have signed a four year contract but who really believes he'll see much more than a quarter of that out as a reds player. We could and probably should be where Luton are now (if you look at the make up of their squad in some ways we are) but where as they have built on their successes we've weakened the foundations every time we've started to build leading to the inevitable collapse.
I may be way of the mark here and I really hope I'am but I have a really bad and worsening feeling about the coming season both on and off field I didn't at the end of last season and was quite optimistic about our prospects but as the weeks have gone by the optimism has faded greatly.

I get it doesn’t look great. But it’s pre season and I’m pretty sure last year this time people had a lot of the same gripes. And I’m not for a second suggesting we will be as successful as last year just trying to have some perspective. I’m sure your not but It feels like you’re almost pleased to be telling us how **** everything is.

Good stuff. That's the key - other clubs seem to build on their success; we exploit that success financially and have to start again.

    Style is important though.

He's not an awful player as some make out but I don't think he fits our system or style at all. At Burton he'll have most likely been in a back 4 playing a low block which suits him.

For us he's in a 3 and needs to be able to play out and bring it forward from defence etc. He's not good enough to do that imo.

I agree I think people want moon to succeed because he is from the academy but ive seen nothing in a red shirt to say he will. Duff never fancied him after that awful display in the paint cup. I'm not sure Marsh or dyer are ready for league one either jalo probably the closest to been ready.

He was the left centre half in a 3 at Burton. Very similar set up to us.

The biscuits will be particularly soggy after yesterdays ‘result’. Can see why they’re cheesed off though. Getting £3m for a third division defender with a year left on his contract is terrible business. Duff doing the dirty on us was definitely Khaled and JAQ’s fault as well.

I stand corrected on that part then.

I still don't think he suits what we do though. In the games I've seen him he's never looked comfortable playing out from back etc. Which is what Collins wants to do.

He doesn't have the pace to play a high line either, again something Collins apparently wants to do.

Seems a nice lad and hope he does well in his career but personally I'd sell him while his stock is a little high after a good loan and let Collins bring someone else in.

So you are assuming that people who are not alarmist and are simply awaiting to see how things go either deny/or haven ‘t a clue what’s going on? Remember all the doom and gloom at the end of last season and then signings such as Norwood showed how low things had got. Well that’s not for me, if things go really bad on the pitch then I’ll voice my concerns.

The Leeds match was played behind closed doors for a reason I presume.

No one paid money to see the game, so no one should be criticising, it would jave been classed a training session.

Scoreline not important to the coach as he would be trying things, assessing players, working on fitness

    Fuss over nothing.

Do you remember our worst ever pre season when we lost every friendly. After losing at Chesterfield the team was boo'ed off and new signings in particular were subject of an unbelievable tirade of "rubbish" and "not fit to wear the shirt" and "where did we sign these from non league".
Well guess what that team of "non league rubbish" went on to give us our greatest season ever and took us up to the Premiership.Funny old game football.
