You can lead your horse to Watters, will it drink?

    I'd give it a chance.

Me too. Better than going through the desert on a horse with no name.

Correct on all counts. Whilst I massively appreciate Cole's contribution last season, in my opinion he should be a squad player next season if we're seriously aiming for the automatics. I'm absolutely sure that Watters will bang in close to 20 given a regular start and the right service.

Fantastic player that, if we get him, will become a Barnsley legend. Hope this is true. Get Connor Wickham to play alongside him and with Connell, Kane, Phillips and Cadden we'll be better than the Johnson/Heckingbottom side

Not read the thread, but brilliant business & surely a consensus that this is a perfect type of signing for us?

Good age, needs to get back on track, got all the attributes, knows us etc. What's to moan about?

I like Cole, because last season he tried his bag out. And he's not without attributes. But Watters is a different level. And if we can keep Cole motivated, with the pace he's got, bring him on after 70 minutes against a tiring defence... With Jalo and Dyer's son. Jesus...

He's only started more than 10 league games once since 2015, that was for Forest green mate. I don't think the board would go anywhere near him. Would be interesting to see if they'd lend their ear if Collins wanted him though. His goal record is beyond poor, but I do think he'd benefit Marsh, Dyer, Jalo etc just as they claimed Norwood did.

I think they'd be very wrong. He's fit again. He'd be perfect for us.

I'm ok with this, and as I've posted elsewhere, I think he offered us slightly more than Teddy. And as for 'turning points', his well taken goal against the Fowls was absolutely massive. ;)

I wouldn't be opposed to it on a free, he did quite well in limited appearances for FGR, I think that's why he joined Cardiff in Feb. Not a great finisher but he's definitely a very decent link up man. Definitely would set up a few for Norwood/Watters as you say mate

Wickham, Watters, Norwood, Cole, with Jalo and Dyer in reserve. Plus Oli Shaw and Aiden Marsh. And potentially Iseka.

With Connell, Kane and Phillips in midfield, backed up with Benson, Wolfe and Russell, and possibly Styles.

    We'd boss it.

I don't think we particularly need Wickham. I think we'll be very effective going forward anyway. It's just the defensive upheaval that slightly concerns me. Not because I don't trust the club to sign adequate replacements, more because the bedding in time could be costly.

Having Jon Stead in as coach could be good for Watters. He's a free so worth the gamble

I’m just puzzled how we’d get Watters on a free considering he has a year left at Cardiff and they paid £1m for him.
Great bit of business if true.

He comes with a higher league pedigree but I wasn't impressed with what I saw last season, maybe he didn't have enough football behind him, maybe he wasn't totally fit, maybe I was expecting more.
If we get him for not nothing, its a no brainer. Although Cole and Norwood are pretty good for this division I do believe Duff got a very good tune out of them both, I do hope our new coach can do the same.
I think our coach and management know we are short up front and especially the back, its what we are prepared to do about it that counts, Watters with no fee would be a good acquisition but he doesn't have me jumping out of my seat based on last time out but maybe he needs some game time and some good coaching behind him.

It makes me laugh. If we sign Watters we'll have just about the same strike force as last season. I can't see any negative there at all. Last season was a freak. 86 points after being on the beach for a month and missing the kick at the start of the season.

Obviously the strike force is good enough.
