Think he's just saying "put up or shut up". Either get yer money out or stop disrupting my preseason.
I am curious about one thing you say & that is you seem to think that a goalkeeper is not worth what an outfield player is , whilst goal scorers are always demanding the highest fee I wonder why you do not seem to value keepers , as I said previously I believe a keeper is arguably the most key position in the team , what are your thoughts ?
Nope, think we will have enquired and now be moving on to other targets, think the board will be finding out even lower league clubs don't sell players on cheap, only us what do that.
According to someone on twitter, Mark Hughes got asked if Lewis was leaving and replied with “is he fvck”. Obviously we can’t splash the cash but I’d like to think we will spend some of the incoming Collins money on a replacement.
To answer your question directly, I don't see the goalkeeper as less important. When I think about what I consider the best Barnsley teams I've seen, they all have a strong spine - goalkeeper, centre-back, centre of midfield and centre forward, and if I was a manager I'd prioritise those positions first. Nevertheless, I think it's fair to say that goal-scorers typically attract higher fees than goalkeepers. And I think that'd also be true of Barnsley's record transfers. Off the top of my head, I'd guess we paid more for Hristov, Sheron, Ward, Hignett, Shipperley, Dyer, Hume, Fjortoft and more recently even Thomas, Wilks and even Schmidt(!) than we've ever paid for a keeper. My posts aren't a reflection of my view of the importance of having a good goalkeeper. More that I believe we are cost cutting again given that think there's no chance we'll splash £500k let alone £700k on any player during this window or indeed January. I'll be very (pleasantly) surprised if we spend £500k in total.
That looks to be the end of that then. We still need someone else. I can’t see us going into the season with Killip and Searle.
Wonder how many fans of other clubs have said what youve said when their club has sold a player to us..
Someone on here who usually gets alot of stuff right said Debrah did his medical yesterday so I imagine he will sign. Hopefully watters comes. The keeper ones abit worrying where we have let a keeper go without a replacement.
If true it's us. It'll be interesting what we would be prepared to go to and what Bradford put on him. We must have approached the club and I assume we know the bargaining figure. His contract finishes next year. But an extension is in Bradford's favour. not his. So the ball is in their court for 12 months at least afore they need to cash in. Not unlike us with Collins.
Sounds like I’m not the only one who thinks it would be a good signing. Didn’t realise they were looking to get rid permanently. He’ll probably get a better permanent move.
