Do you think we’ve not got our ‘initial’ targets and we ‘re down the road of ‘other’ targets. I read on here a week or so ago that talk from the Grimsby end was that their star midfielder was having a medical with us last week and all’s gone quiet on that rumour. There’s the player from Halifax, the keeper from Bradford, and the supposed failed bid of the Salford player. BTW, This post is not to either criticise or praise the club, just trying to see what other’s generally think?
We dont seem to be getting deals over the line.. for whatever reason. Maybe they're all still in a queue at Locke park band stand, waiting for piccy, seeing we have finished the offical photographer
Well said Tarntyke. we all hear this weeks "Rumour" then it all goes quiet. then someone asks what the club are doing and boom were all doom merchants or happy clappers...talking to Hooky at ground other day and said I've never seen so many of us having a go at each other....sad ya have to add the line at the end.....were all Reds aren't we..
I reckon it's been a relatively quiet pre-season at most clubs, so far. Being play off finalists and then losing manager is going to set you back also.
Even that one's dragging on a bit now, supposed to be a free agent. Was put about over the weekend that Dallas was interesting Wendys Wigan and QPR .. so we can maybe put that one to bed. Bet both Wdnesday and QPR fans are impressed fishing in the same ponds as us.. every cloud n all that..
I think the clue for me is in the word rumour , thats all they are rumours & until something concrete happens just treat them as a pinch of salt, although fans love a bit of speculation the problem is when they believe the speculation and convert it to fact .
They used to say that about Double Diamond but it wasn't true. This is not satisfactory Khaled by the way Edit. This should read "this is not a skit at Khaled".
I do treat rumours with a pinch of salt and don’t take them too seriously. However, I do like to read them if only to highlight what player’s out there might be available. I was just trying to gauge what other’s on here thought about some of the more ‘talked about’ ones seemingly drying up.
I'm beginning to wonder if all our 'transfers' are on hold subject to the outcome of the EFL charges.
There's no doubt that we're poor at getting stuff over the line, I've heard enough from people that I trust that this is the case. However, do bear in mind that not all rumours are true. I've seen umpteen occasions in the past when we've been linked with players and it's been completely shot down then by local journos.
Sometimes rumours are started by agents, players or just fans being mischievous. The clubs whole model is to have several targets in each position so it’s understandable some of these players are on the list and have been enquired about. That might depend on other players being available etc. Luke Bolton - Salford won’t sell cheap and as we know they rejected our initial bid we may go back with an improved one. Jesse Debrah - Although he’s on a free there might be a tribunal fee as he’s under 23. There’s also a possibility he was one of the trialists against Leeds? Harry Clifton - Arguably Grimsby’s best player so you’d expect them to high ball us. Harry Lewis - The lad is probably waiting for an offer from higher up, he’s definitely got a decent future ahead of him. He may be a long term target which is why we’ve moved on to Liam Roberts as a short term solution? I don’t know if any of this is correct but most of our dealings are very hush hush, just look at the total left field appointment of Neill Collins!
Can’t honestly see us spending much on actual transfer fees this summer maybe the odd £50,000 here and there but no way will we be stumping up half a million for players in this league.
My neighbour is a fanatical Grimsby supporter who follows them home and away. He spoke to the midfielder in question who said he is staying put - rumour.
The evidence says that It really hasn't though - Charlton's signing of Panutche Camara from Ipswich today and Peterborough's of Peter Kioso from Rotherham take the number of incoming deals made by League 1 clubs from other EFL and EPL clubs to over 120 by my count. That's an average of well over 5 each for the other 23 clubs given that Barnsley have signed 0. Most of them didn't lose 7 of their first 18 either.
