Something else I miss from those days - the Saturday evening sports paper. Obviously the Green 'Un in Barnsley but when we moved down to Wolverhampton in the late 70s it was The Pink (Express & Star - W-ton) and the Sports Argus (B'ham Evening Mail) and I usually bought both. Looking online just isn't the same as having the paper, being able to flick through the pages, look at all the tables together etc.
All great memories. I also loved the big midweek games and getting home to see the highlights on Sportsnight with Harry Carpenter.
I'll never forget running up to the Paper Shop at 6 o'clock on a Saturday for my dad's copy of the Green 'Un. Had the results but only reports of the First Half of games 'cos there wasn't time to include the Second half. Oh, and 3:15 on Saturday kick off times at Oakwell.
Yep, the days when 7.30pm kick-offs ended at 9.10pm ( + / - 2mins). 'That' Man City game, my Uncle got me and my mate from Oakwell back to Bradford in time for Sportsnight highlights in his 1300 Ford Escort.
Remember the programme 'The Big Match' as well.. Best theme tune was this one (1974-1980). Best opening credits as well. Goalie walking on his hands at one point..haha Then it changed theme and credits to this (1980-1986) Changed again after that n'all.
