If another company came in for me and offered me a lot more money for doing the same job I’d definitely tell them to get stuffed, I’m staying right here where I’ve zero connection or loyalty to
Done nothing on the pitch since leaving us. Poor goal ratio. Already got a striker of similar age. His bank balance will be excellent, but I think being set for life so young with ridiculous contracts has ruined his motivation.
How's he chased the money? He turned down a contract at man u to move to West ham. Where he looked decent for his first season in prem as a youngster. He then moved to Boro where he was in and out the squad for a few years but still that looked like a decent move on paper. Watford then came in for him to play in prem and it didn't work out. Why would you turn that move down if you have ambition at playing at the highest level. Lots of assumptions being made about his motivations on this thread based on very little evidence in my opinion.
I'd rather have Billy Sharp. Fletchers record is poor to say the least. 2 goals in 26 for wigan last year. Being there for a full season. Only playing an average of 45 mins per game. Says it all for me. I thank the lad for the goal at wembley other than that I don't get the clamour to have him back.
If Ashley Fletcher would come here on our wages and into league 1 with the right attitude and not injured then anyone who would say no to that has a strange view on football. He is without a doubt more than good enough for us.
Ah right, it reads like you said he chased the money the same as Sam Winnall did. Apologies if that's not the case. Still stand by my point though, lots of folk on this thread suggesting he has the wrong attitude (e.g. no motivation) when all of his 3 transfers throughout his career make sense to me from a footballing perspective.
I didn't mean to be harsh - maybe I am. After leaving us he got his big move to West Ham (I think) - decent contract, set for life. He obviously struggled to break into their side - but its the moves afterwards that lead me to believe that he's happy with his lot (and why wouldn't he be). Straight to Middlesbrough where wiki tells me he played 90 games in 4 seasons. If he really wanted to play regularly football then his move from West Ham would have been elsewhere. Like I said there's nothing wrong with that, and I'll never forget his contribution to us that season. And I'd have him back in a heartbeat.
I wouldn't want us to sign him. Never kicked on from his spell with us, made a few quid though with some good moves.
That's fair enough. I think to be fair to him his move to Boro was from the prem to the championship though and it was for a decent fee. So you would argue he took a step down and expected to start games at Boro. But for whatever reason he's only really had one season where he's been first choice. Seems to me he's just never really found the right club and/or he's just not lived up to the early promise he showed at Oakwell. Happens to a lot of players.
Just looked into that actually. And yeah, if a top end Champ side is buying a young striker from the Prem for a decent wedge then he would have expected to play. Knowing Boro, they probably bought 8 forwards that window.
Why? Hes had one and a half decent seasons in over 10 years. Why is that such a strange opinion to hold?
You can't join teams like WestHam Middlesbrough Watford be fit and 28 years old and not be good enough for us in league 1. Only reason would be attitude and application and I don't think we know enough about him to question that.
