Speaking with a Sheffield United supporter earlier this week and he was saying the talk over Bramall Lane way was that Sharp was heading to Oakwell.
Yet West Ham, Boro & Watford higher up the pyramid paid between £7-£12m ( don’t know exact figures).actually just looked looks like loans except Boro who paid £7.3m
. I think sometimes we can be blinded by transfer fees. Fletcher has scored about 20 goals in 130 championship games which isn't that great (admittedly it's more than Cole who hasn't had that chance). Just because some has commanded high transfers doesn't mean they're Messi. Look at the transfer fees paid for Harry Maguire when compared to, well, anyone really.
He didn't do very well though everywhere he has been he's scored few goals. Not saying Cole would have scored more. Seems abit of a pointless argument anyway as we couldn't afford his wages back then and can't now.
Absolutely no Idea wether Fletcher is up for the fight anymore but the records show that we're probably the lowest ranked club that he's ever played for so the folk going all big ******** on him not being good enough for us is comical.
He did ok for Boro a few years back. Been a long time since he was a regular starter though. I think he could do with dropping down to league 1 and playing. Does he really want to retire with a flop of a career? One of those where if he wants it, he could be great for us. Risky one though
There's plenty others I'd rather have. If we get Dallas and Watters over the line we might not need another either. Unless Collins wants a target man type to hold it up etc. Which Fletcher isn't.
Sorry. His 2 goals in 26 games for Wigan did them the world of good last season. If we had a striker in the squad that had his scoring record for the last three seasons, people would be offering him piggy backs to another club.
