Could it the delays re signings are down to him wanting his say. The friendlies as much as I don't like the late cancellation he needs time to work on what he wants. As much as it's similar to Duff's way it's not a carbon copy he needs them to understand his way and that's hard to do during games themselves I would think.
I was also thinking this...possibly he has arrived and insisted he doesn't like this player or that player that the system has advised and he would like others to compliment his team instead. Hopefully he can get the right ingredients on board sooner rather than later, I still believe the defence needs some quality to replace our outgoings.
I would say that’s exactly right. I wonder if the Debrah deal fell through because he’s had a good look at Nathan James and thinks he will take Debrah’s spot in the squad and now he wants someone with a bit more league experience to replace Mads. Whilst I don’t agree with messing lower league teams around, an inter squad friendly as opposed to an actual friendly means you can coach 22 players at a time into your way of playing, and you can stop the game at any point, make them play extra time for fitness etc etc.
You don't learn anything getting kicked by Guiseley or Mansfield in their cup final. I'm glad he cancelled those friendlies and I'm also glad the board backed him in doing so. As for transfer coming in. That's just conjecture. I'm sure he will want as many players as he can to work with.
I'd say not, as in his press conference yesterday, he said that there's a recruitment team in place for transfers, and his job is simply to coach the team. Presuming there hasn't been a change in model, he'll have the final say in players, but I don't think he has much control over the pace of incoming transfers. I think it's more of a case of teams being willing to let players move on before they've got a replacement lined up. Whilst Watters is down the pecking order at Cardiff, they may want to ensure they've sufficient cover before letting him leave etc.
Maybe also keeping something in reserve for January when he will have a much better idea of what is required. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.
Collins has already said he thought our January transfer window had more of an effect on last season because Duff knew by then what he needed for a promotion push.. So reading into that, they're may be players still here at end of August that won't be in January. And also we may not see a Collins team till after The January window. Sounds to me like he wants to make up his mind over the first twenty games not five minutes on certain players.. Would be nice if he could get Laya earning his money. Get it into his head that only by performing here he'll get decent move away. Patience is the key here.. and trust in Collins to do it his way.
I think it’s a few things at the moment. But I don’t see any of it as negative. It’s a sign of a strong manager that he’s cancelled the friendly. Would have been easier to just do it. Also, whilst the recruitment people are in place, the manager does have a say - Duff said that too. Finally, most transfers are dependent on other things clicking into place - that’s why it can take time. We delayed Brad Collins, as we needed someone else lined up first etc.
Maybe the Board have accepted that this year is to be a year of consolidation and not expect instant promotion on the back of last year's relative succsss. Give Collins time to shape HIS team ready for a big push next season.
I was thinking more on the lines of what been said previously that recruitment set a short list of say 3 players and the coach decides wether he wants player a b or c, maybe that's not the case with the timescale but you would think either way they would want bodys in the building as they say pretty soon.
stop talking sense you will have people jumping on you, the way i see it and I'm by no means a happy clapper things at Oakwell are happening for a reason we cant influence it and as long as we have a team that competes again this season and a club that somehow lives within their means without going daft like some clubs have then let them get on with it, I remember 2002 when we nearly lost the club we all love and even now we are still fighting financial battles and if conman and lee were still here we would probably be 2002 all over again, all the present board have questions we all want answering and that includes the crynes who are by no means innocent in all this. there is a reason why other clubs wouldn't touch the pmg group before they took us over, was it conman's gift of the gab or some other underlying thing that caused the crynes to accept the deal?? just my ten pence worth
All fans want some new shiney player's to unwrap I get that.i remember the Wilson mk2 and the signing of Lita and Tracy and I got excited and we all know how that worked out. I rather us wait and get the right players in,this window is very much the domino effect I'm sure it will all fall in place hopefully sooner rather than later.
I think that's what Collins was getting at talking about the Jan window. All the players coming in now and probably leaving as well will have been the clubs decision.. Khalid Disco Bobby recruitment team.. Collins as been here 9 days. What he sees in the next few months and where we are ok, and what needs strengthening still, he will then have input in the next window.. But even in 9 days he knows we need experience at the back with the loss of Mads and Bobby Thomas. Something we all know. Ok mid-field get watters and Dallas in to Challenge Cole and Norwood.. plus the younger lad keeping the pressure on. It's just at the back we're short wing backs and center backs.. but we are allowed 5 loans who will have done a preseason somewhere else. Don't think we'll be top two from the off.. but we'll be alright
