Seems like a great bloke, my gaffer was chatting to him in Portugal a few weeks ago and mentioned about working again and he replied nobody's asked me.
Unfortunately, as much as we all love Mick, his brand of football is going extinct. He did really poor at Cardiff & Blackpool most recently. I think the only jobs people will be looking at him for will be desperate late on in the season, even then I don't think he'd guarantee much success like he did a few years ago.
He has mate, he should be incredibly proud of his managerial career. There will be loads of managers out there who wish they had as much success as Big Mick, for such a lengthy amount of time too. I just think football has moved on from his style. Ipswich under him played 'decent' football, and it suited them in the early days results-wise. He was there for a long time though and eventually they kept getting lower & lower, ironically relegated as soon as they sack him & I think since he had that team so long, he would have kept them up, even though Ipswich fans hated watching it for large parts. But his time at Cardiff & Blackpool was awful (albeit his win record with Cardiff was THAT bad), poor football to watch - which is a shame because he's a brilliant bloke. I hope he does find another club and smashes it, I'd just be very surprised if it's from a championship club or higher. Might get a gig with a foreign club though with his experience & the amount of contacts he'd be able to bring a club.
Would be an excellent support to Collins as he knows him so well as his ex Manager. Just what we need - a Director of Football to get these transfers over the line and use his vast experience to support the club/ manager moving forwards.
Sorry Mick, but you’re talking ********. Of course the fans criticising Henderson, etc, for going to Saudi would be tempted by £700k per week, because they are probably on £20,000 per YEAR. It really would be life changing, as you say. Jordan Henderson currently gets a wage of around £200,000 per WEEK. That’s £10m per year. And then there’s all the money he’ll be raking in on top of that, from bonuses, sponsorship and endorsements. He’s also benefitting from being looked after by a top Premiership club. No ringing the GP surgery trying to get an appointment for him. He’s leading a pampered life. £700k per week for Jordan Henderson is not life changing, as he already gets paid more than he could spend. From skint to stinking rich is life changing. From stinking rich to stinking richer is not. It’s called greed. And in Henderson’s case, it’s also hypocritical, after the stance he claimed to be making with the rainbow laces. Actually Mick, do you know what would be life changing for the fans you are sneering at? One month’s worth of Henderson’s current wages.
Using the excuse. Other sports/athletes go for the money. As if 2 wrongs make a right. Sorry Mick. Saudi has one of the worst human rights records in the world. That fact can't be brushed under the carpet and wasnt mentioned. I'd have liked to have heard his views on that. If it was just about money then he has gone down in my estimation. The fact is. If these already mega rich people refused to go. Things might change. This ****** saying it helps mend their ways is nonsense. And BTW many a sportsperson has refused to take the carrot so to speak. So it's not just your average joe bloggs. Andy Murray an example.
Forgetting all the politics of money and Saudi etc, it was a true privilege to have watched him play. A proper great for us
Did he do that bad at either? Cardiff were struggling when he got the job & they went on a good run. The budget was cut in the summer & they went back to the kind of form that got him the job in the first place which led to him getting the sack. But they were & are a club in free fall really. Been progressively getting worse since the parachute payments ended & it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone if they ended up in league one soon. Blackpool were the worst team in the championship with what was probably the 23rd biggest wage budget when he took over. He was unable to make them any better but they weren’t any worse under him. To me really poor jobs are managers that are taking decent sides & making them worse or doing worse than previous managers with more resources such as Steve Bruce in his last couple of jobs. I agree he’s in a tough spot thought. He’s only going to get jobs at clubs in a mess now in all likelihood & he’ll have to turn a clubs fortunes round to get a better job again.
Tbh I wasnt thinking of Stones in the sense of Centre half. For some reason I think/thought (S4it memory on certain things) he played more games at full back than centre half. I think he did at the start at least. I was thinking more Norman Hunter. But he was more defensive midfield whist playing with us. So that rules him out I suppose. The season under Clarkey.
