John Hendry definitely wasn't given a fair crack of the whip. Huge injury list if I remember. Having to play less than full strength sides throughout his tenure. Wasn't Hignett signed by him.?

Blackburn at home is my personal highlight. Mainly because Eric Tinkler won me £200 on a bizarre 2 way bet..!! :)

They didn't play much together at championship level the season before though. Pinnock didn't have many appearances and Mowatt was out on loan.

Yes mate, the Boro connection. He signed Mike Sheron too. Which was a great coup, even though he didn’t do too much. Bruce Dyer too..
I don’t think John was really cut out for management. He said the same, himself. It was too soon for him & he had played with half that dressing room. I think it was John Dennis trying to appease the supporters after Danny left. Bad judgement & I like John Dennis.
We did smash Huddersfield at home though. One of the greatest games in living memory. I watched it in a pub in North London, before heading off for a night shift. Surrounded by gooners, taking the pee, until Darren Barnard waved that magical left wand. :)

As much as he was paid to score (Sheron) . His talent shone through. One of my favourite players even through his goal drought with us. Possibly affected Hendry's standing.

both did really well. I thought the attacking football under stendel was incredible that year. Hecky took over a side that begun to turn around under Johnson but yeah but good managers for us

    sounds about right.

Hendrie under achieved but if he’d have been to allowed to keep Ward and given a second season to bed in fully he might have done well. Also I think he lost Eric to a heart attack too didn’t he which would have been a big loss

One of the very few occasions I have written a personal letter to a Barnsley player. (& it’s always nice, I don’t do hate) was to super John. I genuinely felt terrible about him getting sacked & I told him so.
He replied with a signed Boro photo. I still have it somewhere.. :)

    My favourite managers are few.
    In order.
1 Hunter Football at it's best
    2. Wilson 1st time round/Premier
    3. Clarke. Start of a new era.
    4. Steele. Total respect
    5. Hendrie Treated unfairly imo
    6. Bassett. Football was far better than anticipated given his reputation.

Parachute payments weren't introduced until 2006/7, so we didn't get any.

    I'm lazy, so a top 10.

Wilson, as he is the only one to have achieved the impossible of the promised land.
Hunter, as that was the best Reds' team I've seen in my lifetime.
Ismael, for best season in modern times.
Clarke, for turning the club around in the 70's & setting us on the road to being a professional, successful club again
Hecky, one of our own & a great promotion season.
Ritchie, brilliant turnaround of a team in turmoil, big shout out to Rick Holden too.
Duff, similar to the above... just beaten by the officials at Wembley...
Bassett, for one of the most entertaining seasons in our history. If Barnard had scored that penalty at Wembley, he would have been higher.
Stendel, for a great season & embracing the town & the fans.
Davey... controversial, I'm sure but wins over Chelsea & Liverpool in the cup & a semi final we should have won made great memories....
