I reckon that we still need someone to potentially run with the ball, past the opposition through the middle.
And that's just the ones that came to Barnsley... I wonder, if they renamed the Conference to 'Division 5,' would that reduce the stigma of signing "Non League" players? As others have said recently, the standard at that level is way above what it's ever been and most of the top half of that league would do well in League 2, such is the bottleneck that the promotion/relegation system from the league creates.
No idea mate. When we know if Styles is staying or going, someone else may come in. Thomas did that last year for us, looked well early on before his injury, then we adapted very well without him. Kitching can just run one half of pitch and then Phillips the other half
Agreed there. Some will, some won't. I think we've signed some very decent prospects and some punts. Time will tell.
A lot of our fans sniggered at Luton when they were bringing in players like Luke Berry and Jordan Clark a few year ago, didn't end up too badly for them
The is the thing I'm definitely not against signing prospects, we have to and it's a big part of our philosophy and how we survive as a club but when we sell our captain and key defender for 3+ million there has to be a serious replacement, as yet there isn't and it was known Mads was leaving long before he left.
But we know we’re trying to sign one from abroad, and if it’s the guy who’s named earlier he will come from a higher league and with more experience under his belt than Mads did.
Some people on this thread need to genuinely have some humanity. He’s a person first and foremost. I really hope he’s a massive success at Barnsley and I wish him nothing but the best.
How do we get a straight replacement for Mads though? We sold him because he was, in part, too good for us to keep and knew he could get much better money elsewhere. For the same reasons no player with the same proven ability is going to come and join us. The best we can do is take a gamble on someone we feel has a lot of potential to reach Mads' level very quickly. I don't see how it's feasible that we can get anybody that will be able to match him in the space of this season. That being said I really hope we can still bring in one or two central defenders that are better than what we currently have. It sounds like they're after one. I'm hoping we can get another in on loan. For me getting at least one is key to us challenging strongly again. The club know what they need. They've said so. That's no guarantee they can get a deal done though.
