Going back a few more years, Alistair Millar & Bobby Doyle came from Scottish junior football, Mick Butler came from Worsbrough Bridge and Anton Otulakowski came from Ossett (I think!).
I don't think Ally would survive pre season these days but I wouldn't mind the other three in the current squad.
I think most of the footballers from yesteryear would become used to the increased intensity of modern day training. Just as most modern day footballers would adjust to the more brutal tacking & fouling, as well as the poor quality of pitches.
Most of those listed were easily the best players in the teams we signed them from. Not sure that’s true of the current lot. Not that I’d write them off for that but we aren’t comparing apples with apples.
