I think there’s one guy left. Can’t remember the circumstances of the disappointments. The Telly goes straight off and I try to forget. Being a Reds fan is particularly good in that regard. Loads of practice.
Yeah must admit it feels quite nice to not have the same level of emotional attachment. The family are from Killala & Belmullet - we got married over there the day of a Semi Final & let's just say some folk weren't too pleased about the scheduling... I went to Castlebar a couple of years ago to see them v Galway. A home defeat v a local rival felt so lovely & familiar.
The family are from Castlebar (Grandparents). Came to work on the Fitzwilliam estate and then down the mines. Never been to Castlebar but hopefully next year. Must have been brilliant to get married in Mayo .
Living in Cork and been refereeing Gaelic Games for 16 years now. Hurling is the absolute pinnacle of team games imo but I do like Gaelic Football. Reffed two games on Saturday and ran the line for another. Ran the line for a game yesterday and Umpired for another yesterday evening. In between watched the All Ireland. Its a bit of religion over here tbh and I seem to have been converted. In Cork I feel we wanted a match where both teams could lose !!
Just the idea of the intricacy of the skills needed whilst dealing with the risk of being clattered round the bonce with a decent bit of wood is crackers.
