The world is literally on fire, and the people in power around the planet, really don't seem to care. It's all very depressing.
I know a guy that worked on carbon capture trials years ago and he said they were a complete success but the government shelved it anyway ' he recons its because we had to be seen to be going green' he's really narked because we aren't still utilising the resources under our feet.
Carbon capture is not the solution. Sure it helps but the only way out of this crisis is a massive and immediate reduction in fossil fuel use. Unfortunately Carbon Capture simply gives the oil and gas producers an excuse to keep drilling. It also leaves future generations the massive problem of looking after the carbon dioxide buried underground when we don't fully understand what problems might be associated with it - repeating the same mistakes we made with waste from nuclear power stations. We never seem to learn do we?
I’m working on the Carbon Capture Net Zero Teeside project. It’ll be a amazing achievement if we get it right. It’s a fantastic project to work on. Hopefully Sunak will be long gone by then and we can have someone who cares about the planet not a tiny subset of voters who don’t give a toss.
In the very short term I can actually see Sunaks point. It plugs a gap for energy. I think that's what he's doing. However, the gap should have been plugged 20/30 years ago. There is no long term thinking in government. Its all short termism. I think this type of decision is actually a reason why we should have PR. Might sound unrelated but Id explain if ya wanted me to.
Agree really. Right now, there is no alternative - which has been highlighted even more by the situation in Russia/Ukraine. We do need long term plans and actually get on with them - but regardless of politics, I think Starmer would have had to made the same decision.
Simple solution to carbon. Plant more trees. Stop cutting them down without replacing them. Trees live on carbon and remove a vast amount of this from the air.
I remember he was about to come on as sub one game and the Ponty were singing C'mon Carbon, C'mon Carbon to the tune of Wanna be in my gang. Wouldn't happen nowadays of course.
I dont like it really. As to Starmer he'll say anything now to get elected. He may have genuine vision, he may be full of crap.
It's not carbon we need to stop,it's the amount of people we have on this planet what is the problem. Slow this down and less energy required.
The problem is that it's not a short term solution, in that it will take 15 to 20 years before the oil starts flowing. In that time I would hope we could put more sustainable solutions in place.
Yup. Could get a big offshore wind farm up and running in a couple of years. Without the NIMBYs, you could get a nuclear plant or tidal barrage up and running in 5-10 years. Even with the NIMBYs you could get a nuclear power station within 20 years.
