Looking at the stats and performances in the ashes series just finished. I think the wrong ones retiring Broad still looks at the top of his game Anderson sadly just hasn't
Does look that way. Pretty sure Ali will be retiring again and he has done OK considering he unretired to play this series
I think Anderson should have gone too. I don't think Broad would have lasted into his forties because he's all action.
Respect to Broad for going out on such a high. He really couldn’t have scripted it better. Hope Anderson can go out on a similar high but sadly I don’t think he will now. He’s gone on probably a year too long.
I'll never write Jimmy off.. people have been doing that for over 5 years now. But I'm very surprised he fancies spending all Winter toiling in Indian conditions!
I just worry Jimmy is going on too long. He could have gone out on his own terms but I really hope the selectors don't have to make that decision for him as that would be a sad way to finish.
His accuracy by his own high standard was unusually poor but, as someone pointed out, he was our most economic bowler, which in turn often gets wickets at the other end. Anyway, Jimmy has a few months to deliberate but if I was him I’d retire now to avoid the ignominimy of not being picked for India. There’s a chance that he is to retire soon and didn’t announce it now so Broad could take the glory on his own
I wouldn’t take Jimmy to India I don’t think, not sure if they will with Broad retiring, Robinson having a glass back and everyone else a bit unproven in the conditions. Anderson averages under 30 in India, which to be fair is pretty good for out there. I’d give him the winter off though, I reckon. But there are six test matches next English summer against the windies and Sri Lanka, I fancy he’ll have an eye on those to get past 700.
To be fair Anderson's stats in all Ashes series are considerably worse than his other performances. He's just never quite performed.
He probably should. But how entrenched in ‘doom and gloom’ are we on this board at the minute when the immediate takeaway from probably the most entertaining test series ever is “so and so should retire”? This series has made me genuinely care about cricket for the first time in over 10 years. My wife and son now love it. It’s been fantastic, the way it’s ebbed and flowed it’s been sport at its very best! Be in the moment, enjoy it! When Boy Band took that last wicket all 3 of jumped up, arms in the air, it was ace!
Highest wicket haul for any fast bowler, just won an ashes series and the chat is Jimmy should retire. I think he knows his ability and body better than anyone, I’ll respect his decision and hope he goes on to prove the doubters wrong.
I was just responding to the OP title ‘Anderson & Broad’. In no way trying to detract from a fantastic series of Ashes cricket. Hard to imagine one better. Such a shame the rain robbed us at Manchester…..
I wasn’t picking out anyone, just the general tone of the thread. I could understand it cropping up over the next couple of days, I do actually think it’s a valid point now it’s out there! But must we live so relentlessly in the real world
