Ah they millions of girls in China and that 11 is the best they can put on the park. I shake my head in disbelief.
I think I heard that we’ve never beaten China before. I think most folk expected it to be closer. Ian, I suppose your bin was made in China too !!
China poor but England looked the part. I can see this competition costing you a(nother) small fortune in ABE shirts Ian? The replica shirt industry really is thriving in our Northern-most county
Cracking performance, excellent result, and don’t blame var for the disallowed goal or the penalty decision. They just got the ref to have a look. The decisions made were all on the ref, who showed she didn’t have a clue what she was doing later on when giving an uncontested drop ball to the team in possession after the ball struck her, before thinking about it and then giving it to England as it was close to the box. No idea what to do and the players looked baffled by her too. She decided Bronze was active from the cross before what should have been James’ second goal: she wasn’t. She later decided to book her - the penalty I don’t agree with but that is the rule and is relatively consistent, so ok, give the penalty if you must, but the yellow card was a joke. Poor, poor refereeing. She even said sorry when she gave it! Had no real effect on the game and it barely takes a tiny bit of shimmer off the shiniest of performances. Well played ladies, on to the Super Falcons from Nigeria. A much sterner test I’d bet.
I must be missing something because it still looks like slow motion football with players being given acres of space and ages on the ball to me.
Like a lot of team sports, the women’s game isn’t really comparable to the men’s game in terms of pace or physicality but that doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the skill levels and enjoy the game.
It’s refreshing not seeing players rolling about on the floor feigning injury and surrounding the referee like in the men’s game
Just watched the highlights. Magnificent display by England, although the Chinese 'keeper seemed very good at making tame shots look unstoppable! Also - Lauren James. What a player, and only 19. Potential to be one of the greatest female players in history.
Not that it matters now but saw this online and have no idea..... Who qualifies if China beat England 1-0, and Denmark beat Haiti 1-0? England, Denmark and China would all finish on 6 points, all teams would have scored 2 goals and conceded 1, and in the head to head England would have beaten Denmark 1-0, China would have beaten England 1-0 and Denmark would have beaten China 1-0
