Seems in his breakthrough season, he was part of a side who won promotion from the French 3rd tier, and spent last season playing in the French 2nd tier.

Never heard of him but what’s new there.
Quick Google search suggests good solid player and even though relegated last season thought well of. Was also captain at team before at a young age.

A tweet from the guy who has posted the rumour from April.

I just made two phone calls. It's true, Rani Assaf cut the stadium music in Nîmes every match day to save on the cost of SACEM rights.

I can't take it anymore, I give up. Nîmes Olympique is no longer a circus but much wor se

The staff now wants an experienced goalkeeper, an extra striker and a defender to replace Maël Durand de Gevigney. The former Versailles player left the Bastide yesterday after saying goodbye to his teammates. Direction England where he should sign soon in a club of D3.

NÎMES OLYMPIQUE Ibrahim Sacko recruited, Maël Durand De Gevigney is gone (objectifgard.com)

He is of noble lineage and his family own a castle!

"I have been descended from a noble family on my father's side for many generations. In the time of Henry IV, I think. There were counts Durand De Gevigney, and there is a family castle in Mayenne. I don't know much more. But, I prefer to be called Maël De Gevigney, it's shorter! »

I always like it when we sign a player I know nothing, or very little, about.

I believe the time-honored treatment of French royalty involves Mr Robespierre wheeling out a guillotine at half time and us having to make an enforced substitution for the second half due to a serious head injury. And McGeehan gets a 3 match ban.
