Why Norwood left?

Just realised I've been reading this whole thread in my head in a Brummie accent. No further comment.

 

Norwood is lame ,he been struggling since day he arrived,done well to get as many minutes as he as,we better off getting shut

 

Yes, he didn't look like a spring chicken banging in goal after goal in pre-season at all did he?

 

He tore his hamstring at Ipswich in 2020,never been right since ,see how many 90 minutes he plays at Oldham

 

You obviously have more confidence than I do in Khaled finding a better replacement.

 

But managed 45 games for us last season most of which he was by far the most mobile and quickest striker, setting tempos, setting the standards and doing far, far more than scoring goals but don't let his actual performances get in the way. I'm assuming Oldham have undertaken a medical and that we did last season too so he can't be that lame. And actually very few strikers play 90 minutes these days - most modern managers have 2 or 3 on the bench and interchange them liberally.

 

I'd take a Norwood who can only play 45mins a week over any other proven striker at this level at the club, he brings more than just game time.

My confidence in Khaled finding a replacement for Norwood is neither here nor there. Khaled is our CEO, he does not identify players that we wish to sign. That is the job of the recruitment team. Over many years our recruitment team have proved they are capable of identifying dozens of players we can buy cheaply who prove to be of far higher value, both in terms of benefit to the team and resale value, than what we signed them for. Are you now claiming that our recruitment team are incapable of identifying a striker better than Norwood?

Almost got a 3 year deal at Oldham, which will take him to 35. Not to be sniffed at by him.

Interestingly I was listening to the Undr the Cosh podcast yesterday with Geoff Horsfield and the end of his career just shows how a long contract can be worth dropping down the leagues for.

 

How is it sense to advocate losing an experienced player for peanuts that can get goals and gee up the team? Be different if we'd let him go at the start of the window and brought in a replacement.

 

The thing about saying a potential three year deal (but only two guaranteed) gives him security is it’s not like he wouldn’t have got at least a one and probably a two year deal in a blooming non league club next year anyway, is it? If a league one club offered him a three year deal then yeah, he’d be mad not to take it, but he’d easily walk into any non league side anyway so what was the rush? He may as well have done another season in league one with us and then moved.
