The more I think about it, the less arsed I am he's left. We've let much better players leave at more crucial times of the season and been alright in the past. How some are going on, it's as though we've let a 20 goal striker go. Some perspective is needed. There's a reason he's dropped 2 leagues.
I'm not advocating his sale, I'm saying there's pretty obvious context as to why we've decided to sell him. Folk might not agree with it, but it's not the worst deal we've ever done & I think we've got a decent enough strikeforce lined up.
So, in your opinion, the people who identified Norwood won't have the capacity to identify another player better than Norwood, even though they've done that many, many times before?
Oh aye. At least - and folk can pretend they don't see it all they want - there's obvious context to it. And, again, HE'S GONE TO THE CONFERENCE AND WE'RE BANGING ON LIKE HE'S PRIME TOMMY TAYLOR.
The 2 reasons Norwood left (the 2 year contract is a bonus) 1 - he lives in Manchester and is banned from driving, so a club closer to home is much handier for him 2 - a personality clash/fall out between him and Khaled
He’s definitely gone for them reasons. For me it’s more the frustration that he’s played regularly in pre-season looking set to be first choice & now leaves 2 days before the season starts. If he’d gone a month ago it would’ve given us time to prepare properly.
I think it will turn out to be a really poor decision. Not because of his talent as a footballer (although I do rate him compared to our other strikers) but also for the experience he would have passed on, and most importantly he seems to be an influential character in the dressing room. That level of influence and experience is vital in a young dressing room, which has had 2 shocks to contend with (defeat at Wembley and Duff leaving) with Duff leaving we needed as much to remain constant as possible, and this looks disastrous to me, on the eve of the new season. I hope I’m wrong, and you can say I’m talking boll0cks when we are top at Xmas, I really do, but I think we are in for a season of mediocrity at best and possibly even bottom half struggle.
‘‘Twas a flippant response borne out of annoyance that we’ve let a striker leave that is different to what we already have at the club. He offered nous, pace, strength and no little skill in his own unique way, all be it only in short bursts. To get rid less than 48 hours before the new season kicks off beggars belief in my opinion. You obviously see things differently and you may be right, I may be wrong. Time will tell but you don’t see many other clubs doing similar that’s for sure. To answer your question though, I don’t have a lot of faith in us signing a similar forward with similar qualities that I think our squad needs. It won’t be a tried and tested replacement ready to step straight in. It’ll be another to develop from non league or maybe a youth loan from the Prem like Tedic (still think it’ll be him if I’m honest). It’s a bonkers move and no one will convince me otherwise.
Possibly. But he might have scored us some key goals before that. Now he'll score them for Oldham instead.
He said he was sad to be leaving, but I’ve been sad to leave a job even though I’ve accepted a new one.
I don't agree with your conclusion, but I appreciate your sincere response. I get things wrong a lot, but I genuinely don't think you'll be missing Norwood come Christmas. I think we'll bring in better and I think we've already got better at the club.
Dunno mate. Could read it either way I spose. Mads said he was gutted to be leaving, but it was still definitely his choice to leave.
It’s only a turn of phrase though. I can use gutted instead of sad interchangeably about a lot of things. I’m sure he is gutted to leave his mates at the club. I’m sure he’s also happy to sign for Oldham.
You could be right. And I hope you are. Otherwise i fear we're stuck in this league for a very long time!
