Ok. we've sold Norwood on virtually the eve of our season kicking off. Not a few days previously our CEO went in print to yet again rouse the fans into action ( obviously thinks it's needed). Lots of differing opinions on here and I held back till this latest move sank in but the only thing that comes to mind is the John Lydon 1978 Sex Pistols quote at their final Winterland gig. "Ever had the feeling youve been cheated" Ye some on here will tell me I'm overreacting and should be getting behind em but this is how it feels to me and I respect anyone who doesn't share my opinion. the loss of Main Goalkeeper 2 main centre backs and main striker doesn't scream ambition and if I never hear from Khaled or Quay again that'll do for me..(Ye I kno 2 of em were loans but why couldnt we keep em,we got to Wembley FCS) If my season tkt payment was today would I renew? don't think I would and I've gone since the 70's...very disappointing......
Guttered that Norwood as moved on ,cant get my head around why Oldham. I don't get the point about blaming Khaled and JA Quay when we have other board members who seem to have no mention when club events happen.
Why cheated,a players gone so what,i think personally we have done pretty well keeping most of the squad together and adding others who the clubs scouting team, not Billy Bloggs think are worth buying.Think many on here would love to see us struggle just to say i told you so.
Oldham because it's commutable, he's banned and devante used to take him training from I heard on here. Thought a club higher up the football pyramid would have come for him. His agent obviously tried to drum up interest with the wrexham move.
36% of the 1st team from wembley have gone for one reason or another. my post said no ambition and I stand by this as losing that amount from a successful team does not match the rhetoric of the CEO about pushing on and achieving the next step up. cheated because sadly I started to believe the rhetoric only for (as others have also said) the current board not to appear any different from the previous board..Think after over 50 years of following the Reds it is fair to assume I want nothing but sucess for the Reds and as always will be happy to be prove wrong and as I also said I respect your opinion.
I fully understand fans being mad etc but some NEVER have a good word to say about the club, we don't know what goes off behind the scenes and Norwood probably wanted to go,iam as dissapointed as anyone but i wish him well.
Weve got a great squad an we'll be reight, wer going up an its as simple as that, if an when we replace Anderson, we'll be even stronger, C,O,Y,R,
We were told after the play off final that two or three would be leaving. Duff, Mads and now Norwood. They knew about Duff and Mads - we all knew Mads would be off. Duff was waving goodbye to the fans at the end. My guess is Norwood is another, maybe he wanted to go anyway. The club exercised the extension - if they knew he may go, we get a fee. If he didn’t get a move to Lancashire he may not have gone. Looks to suit all parties. Not ideal, but understandable. Case of club just protecting it’s interests?
Skinner.. it's all about money mate, those in the boardroom will actully want promotion more than us.. But it will be done their way. Anyone who joins the board that isn't a life long Barnsley fan, from here or abroad, see's us as an opertunity to make a couple of quid. Ether directly through payback on their investment or increasing their company image/sales, portfolio though connection to a football club.. Chose what they say, they have no attachment, they are not here for the love.. just a financial interest. They are here to make a buck, that could be long term.. maybe 20years. But they are not here to put their own money in and wave bye bye to it. We shop in non league because the risk is less. We employ coaches that are desperate to climb the ladder.. or just get on the first run.. Everything is in place.. the only people that need winning over are us the natives.. we are probably there main problem.
The on-going theme through this close season is that the public relations communication with fans has not been as good as it should have been. It has left us in the dark and the dark breeds rumour, some of which may well be false. In the latest statement, it would be good to know something about what the club are actively doing to recruit a replacement for Norwood (or if they don't consider it necessary) and what the state of play is with the promised new central defender. It has certainly been a strange close season with a lot of unexpected happenings. A little, regular information about the smaller matters would undoubtedly keep the fans on board.. There is a growing sense of bewilderment, which would most easily be addressed by more regular communication and a home win on Saturday would transform the scene as well.
Devil's in the details here though, innit? Isted, Thomas, Andersen, Tedic. Three of those were loan players, that we had no control over. The other was leaving regardless So what you could say is only 1 of the contracted players from the Starting XI left the Club Go to the bench - Thomas, Norwood, Collins Thomas - inconsistent at best, doesn't weaken our squad IMO, but we did offer him a new contract Collins - disappointed to lose him as well as Isted, but has been replaced by a pretty solid looking keeper Norwood - I'll agree, that's just baffling to me as it stands This word 'ambition' gets used a lot. I often wonder what people actually mean. Do they mean throwing money at trying to get promoted, or something else? We just got to a play off final, missed out with the last kick of the match and the owners pumped about £5m in to help make that happen. Yet they're accused of not showing ambition. Seems odd to me, that.
When we played last season without Mads, our defence looked very vulnerable. When Norwood wasn't on the pitch our attacking line looked powder puff To say we got as quoted on Sky £3m for Mads you would expect to sign someone with plenty of decent experience at a level at least equivalent to our current level with some of that fee. I'm not pulling down the likes of Lopata who we have signed and hope they can really step up, but on paper they are very much unproven at this level. Worrying to say the least. Although we haven't had a fire sale like previous seasons, it's not far off as bad when it is essentially key players leaving who made up the spine of the team. We have nobody with the attributes Norwood brought to the team now at the club, his impact at Wembley being the most evident. Again very worrying. This is THE season we MUST get out of this league more than any other, mainly due to the new TV deal coming into force at the end of this season. Doubling the money for championship clubs, we can't understate what that additional revenue means to us. If we fail to gain promotion this season, I honestly think we will have to accept long term L1 status unless we get lucky one season. New TV deal will create a similar gap between the Champ and L1 as exists between the Prem and the Champ. We need to take a calculated risk this season to gain promotion and push the boat out a little. No need to be reckless but if it means taking a bigger hit this year, it has to be done!
We wouldn't have been in the play offs without the players who have left IMO. Specifically Norwood and Anderson. Thomas I think you are underestimating his impact. Who would have played last season if not him? Cundy? If so, mid table at best.
Guttered as in guttering? Will have had some hammer these last few weeks! I’m gutted about Norwood leaving
