Will he? Is that fact? If so, how do you know that? According to the only available sources I can see Norwood was on over £4k a week here and the highest paid Oldham player is on £2k. Add in a possible bonus here for promotion to the Championship and the fact that he has no guarantee of a third year at Oldham and it probably goes the other way. Plus he'd still have the potential to pick up a lower league contract next year after leaving here. So it could alternatively be that Norwood had the ambition to want to have one last successful L1 season and see his club promoted. I don't know if any of this is true but it is at least as credible as the OP and would also explain why James cared enough to seek out a YP journalist to express his concerns over the club's recruitment and ambition.
I don't see us letting a 32 year old Norwood go to sign sharp who is 5 or 6 years older. If they have sold Norwood my personal opinion is they're going to go for a different type of striker ie a target man type or something that is younger and fits the model of the club.
What is the obsession with Billy Sharp. He's ancient. Scored 2 in 38 appearances last year. Doesn't like us if reports are to be believed. We'd be paying over the odds for a player who has one year left at best.
Oh ffs ST! He'll probably be their top earner and will be there for two years if not three. He will have been nowhere near our top earner and was only guaranteed one more season. Are you seriously suggesting we can't compete with Oldham for wages if we want the player as much as they do? That's just utterly false and I'm sure you know it.
But you have yourself in your post by saying he'sshown a lack if ambition? Others have mentioned " rumours" and past issues at Ipswich, suggesting the reason for his departure is down to him. As I say I've no clue but a lot of posters seem quick to place the blame on his shoulders in order to exonerate the club, yet get on at fans who ask what on earth is the club thinking? Just double standards Anyway, its in the past now we've a lot of new players to watch this afternoon as well as seeing how our new manager sets us up. COYR!
If you read my post again I've asked a question by saying "is James showing a lack of ambition".I don't take that as piling on him.Personally I was hoping to see him leading the team from the front today.Anyway new season new hope ,enjoy everybody.
i bet hed av got another season if hed got 25, and we use subs all time,,its about getting out of this league is on form looking fit scoring in pre season, were using this league to fetch young uns òn and personally its where pwners want to be,hope im wrong.
I was going to pile in on this subject a few days ago, because I was and still am really disappointed that its happened. But as with most things at the club, none of us really know what's been said or done. Regarding Norwood or the club, or both of them or neither of them, actually being at fault.
I'm disappointed Norwood has left and said so last night. It was obvious, however, that his departure would have had a lot to do with him extending his career as long as possible. If it had been a valuable player to the squad in his mid twenties leaving to join Oldham there'd be real alarm bells but obviously it's a much different scenario. Yet still we had people stating we can't compete with Oldham. As for his comments at Oldham about coming to a club that wants to win the league. Of course he's going to say that. He's just joined and wants to get the fans onside. He's not going to say "I've just pitched up here because I want to guarantee another two or three years wages". For what it's worth credit to him for opting for more football and credit to him for what he did for us.
Well I wonder if we would've even got 60 minutes a game from him this season, because he is approaching 33. Although you can't put a price on the experience and the bit of know-how, that he gives to the squad. Oldham might have offered him something more secure long term, and I agree its credit to him if he's gone there to play, rather than it being about money. I just wish it didn't happen just two days before the opening game though.
I've just seen Devante Cole and Max Watters then Shaw and Dallas put in some hell of a shift. Not bothered about Norwood.
Its a shame yes, but I always end up thinking the same as well when any player has left us... they've gone, and now we move on!.
If he wanted to earn double bubble and we didn’t think he was worth that much then why keep an unhappy player??? It frees up £2-3k a week for someone else who does want to play for us
