Opening day 7 nil win and our main front man bags a hatrick. Also have Watters Dallas Shaw and Jalo.(Cannot include Iseka) Yet no number 9 shirt filled with our squad numbers. For me I still think we need one more striker in plus a back up LWB and a CAM.
I'm afraid that's yer lot.Saturday gave board loads of breathing space.Get past Tranmere tonight and get something at Bristol and we won't be signing anybody unless it's a prem loan.
A lot also depends on connells issue. If we feel hes gonna be out for the forseeable, think we need equivalent quality to fill the gap, may ave to be a championship loanee type scenario. It was a great result setdy but I dont think the management team will be gettin carried away. Norwood is a big loss, choose what you might think of why he left. At lot depends on the boards appetite for promotion and how much they are willing to speculate. For me, you wont get a better chance then this season and the squad aint far away when fit but the odd sprinkling of quality could well be the difference between play off heartache or top 2.
Only 11 can play with 7 on the bench. We have Cole, Watters, Dallas and Shaw and play two up front. I'm happy with what we have with back up from Jalo and Dyer if needed. Midfield we have Connell, Kane and Phillips as our main three. Styles, Russell and Kane started on Saturday. We have Benson, Ackroyd and Wolfe on standby. Connell, Wolfe and Benson are injured. Phillips is suspended. This is our problem area. Styles may depart in the next month and we don't know how long Wolfe, Benson and Connell will be out. Someone needs bringing in on loan with a view to buying them. I was concerned about the defence but aren't anymore. At this level we'll be let off by a lot of teams as we were Saturday and I'm confident we have enough going forward as long as we win the midfield battle.
I reckon we'll see how it goes and maybe look at a loan if we need someone at the end of the month. Collins seemed to be hinting at taking a wait-and-see approach with regard to further signings in one of his interviews.
Right now we should only get an additional striker in, if it clearly is quality and a guaranteed starter. I'd rather not get such as a tedic, who won't command that which prevents our youngsters opportunities. Especially after Saturday, I think everyone who came on, certainly made a point of being able to be around the 1st team.
We absolutely do. We don't have a genuine physical presence up front, nor someone for the other strikers to play off.
But if we keep winning, what's the issue? We'll probably sign a striker on loan, but if the current crop are scoring regularly, I don't see what the issue is?
If we carry on playing the football we are and getting it out wide. Our forwards are more than ample. It only failed on Saturday because we were trying to play Watters as a target man. Once we took stock and started to play to our strengths looked a different team.
Will we play that way though. From what I've read and seen of Collins' Tampa team, he likes to get the ball into wide areas and have them whipped into the box, like we did on Saturday. I think there's less emphasis for a physical presence.
This exactly. We have to have a some physicality as an option. Can't let one big win dictate that we don't need anyone else.
I think we’re cool to til January. There’s no reason why the midfield won’t pitch in with goals like last season.
