Here's our guess for what Khaled's big news is. Single tiered West Stand, solar panels on the roof, corner filled in, more executive facilities, premier league standard press facilities and fanzone with pitch views. Would you be happy if this was the big news?
I'd be delighted. I don't think they'd keep the tunnel though. If I were to design it I'd try to mirror the lower tier of the East Stand, so there'd be the potential to eventually replace the Ponty and have a continuous horseshoe of seats.
Couldn’t the roof be extended to cover seats right to the front? Unless it does and my perspective is wrong.
Said similar a few times over the years. https://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/new-west-stand.308493/page-2#post-2824798
Could we get a Mr McGheehan to officially open it all when its built, if his ban is over by that time!.
If you look at the corner stand and then at west stand it looks like roof overhangs ,but can't tell how far.
I like that, just extend the roof a bit and replace the mirrored corner stand with a state-of-the-art scoreboard, and seats below it (if poss) I liked the design with the 5-a-side pitches under the stand (shown on here the last couple of years), but it looked way too complicated and probably not feasible/affordable. If we wanted to do this design on the cheap, you could just take out the execs and have a single-tier stand. Saying all this, I'm no architect and know nowt.
Mirror the lower east stand, with the structure designed to take a 2nd tier in the future, to fully match the East if that capacity is required. But with today’s prices, I’d suggest you’re looking around £4-£5 million for this work. Nothing is cheap at the moment. And then you’ve got potentially 12-18 months of planning and consultation work on it before a spade even hits the ground…..
The height of the West Stand replacement will have a big say in the atmosphere of the ground, we currently lose a lot of it due to the height of the current structure - it's terrible for the acoustics of the stadium
