You ok HUN ..arrggghhh Nom nom "Look" " Listen" by footballers/ commentators.... patronising gits. " All I'm trying to say" by saying this doesn't change what somebody as said, ha ha Oh and people putting a post on social media, for example " I'm really fooked off" people ask why and they don't reply, attention seeking c0ck throbbers
Absolutely no evidence that that is true. In fact there's lots of reasons to rule it out but none whatsoever to rule it in, including the obvious one that you mention which is that it would have to mean the opposite of what it actually means.
I’ve seen BoG referenced on historic documents to signify that definition. First heard it off my Dad, who worked in steel. Way before internet. & it once came up in a quiz at Prince of Wales in Highgate. (Where the Chase Dark Destroyer sometimes plays). Also apparently, referenced by Fred Dibnah & Suzie Dent. Dates back to Victorian era, particularly in regard to early combustion engines & big arms manufacturing. It was definitely a thing. Whether true origin isn’t initially evident.? But you’re right, not much evidence online, unless you dig really deep into some Prof’s lecture, which I’m not arsed to do.. I quite like the standard quality measure of a basic ceramic toilet bowl too. Boring Sunday here, obviously.
Also from football, usually American commentators; PK and give and go. Other commentators: "He just about made that / got there", when he actually did make that or got there. Anyone: My Bad.
Why has there been about 5 threads in the last week dedicated to people moaning about things people say that have no impact on their lives whatsoever other than showing themselves as being inherently intolerant?
I'm not racist but.... People who get asked a question and then start their answer 'So...' Have a nice day
‘My bad’ is the particular worst. You’re bad what? Bad AT what? Or are you genuinely bad, as opposed to good, or just some badass street lingo you learned from an American film.?It sucks. I like ‘it sucks’, that works..
I believed it came from beach volleyball, when someone makes a mistake, but a quick search shows it's more likely basketball: https://usdictionary.com/idioms/my-bad/
Along similar lines :- "I'm a straight talker" "I tell it as it is" If either is correct, you wouldn't have to claim it. If you do, then you obviously don't. "I went to university, the university of life" Again, if someone claims this, then it's a pity you never graduated!
Your second point made me chuckle. Made me think of people who say, 'so there's 3 things there..' And then proceed to specify 2 points.
And another one.. What's that about when a politician is expressing something and holding their fists as though they are giving you something.
Yeah, an invisible pamphlet. Whilst talking about 'the British people' and things that are 'very clear'.
“Thoughts?” in relation to any football post “Well, what can I say?” (Particularly in a strong Yorkshire) accent at the start of any speech.
