ESL half way line area is ok. People stand when we score, or look like we’re about to, then sit down again. Suits me fine. I like to sit in my seat. My days of standing for a couple of hours are long gone.

East Upper is fine. Virtually no standing when the match is in progress. That suits me too. I don't like having to stand to see the match at away games because of utterly inconsiderate behaviour by someone in front of me. These people are perhaps used to standing at Oakwell.

Fair enough i get it if someone's being a tool and inconsiderately standing bang in front of a young un or elderly. I make a conscious effort to sit where theres a few rows empty space behind me (if theres a free seat), but asking the whole top corner of the ponty to sit down? Do me a favour...

As someone who grew up in the 70s and watched football from actual muckstacks I do find all this a bit petty.

However, I don't understand the anamosity towards the club. These are the rules of the ruling governing bodies that we have to adhere to in order to play in their leagues. They're not the rules of Barnsley FC. The club are being pressured to act and threatened with fines and sanctions if our supporters don't comply.

What possible benefit is there to ignoring these rules? What will getting angry at the club achieve?

"I'll do what I want" is unfortunately the modern mindset of the majority of people.

Can’t see the point in putting our statements like this if you’re not enforcing them? I really don’t think standing is a problem at the ‘well at all. There is the one corner in the ponty which creates the atmosphere and people choose to sit (persistent stand) up there to sing. Really need to get safe standing up there if we want the FA off our back I think. Also I would like to see the same applied to the away fans as well who are stood up all game, why is that targeted only at home fans?

    Spot on Jay!

''It looks as if the Club has until the end of this Season to stop 'Persistent Standing.' (see below)
If not then sanctions imposed on the Club.

    QUOTE
If the ground management still fails to take the necessary action in a timely way, the SGSA will take enforcement action under the 1989 Act either directly or through the variation of the terms and conditions of the licence, including new terms and conditions where appropriate. Such action will be: a. Suspension of part or all of the licence – the SGSA is more likely to use this approach if it is confident that ground management will take all initial steps and appropriate further action to comply with the all-seater conditions before the end of the 2023/24 season; or b. Revocation – the SGSA is more likely to use this approach if it cannot foresee that ground management will take all initial steps and appropriate further action to comply with the all-seater conditions by the start of the 2024/25 season at the earliest; or c. Non-renewal of all or part of the licence – the SGSA is more likely to use this approach on receipt of an application to renew a licence if it does not consider that ground management has taken all initial steps and appropriate further action to comply with the all-seater conditions prior to the start of the 2024/25 season at the earliest.''

The one that looks like a nervous Tom Allen has me in stitches at times.

This, combined with the fact that the local safety officer seems to be a hybrid of Hitler and the Pitsmoor Owl, means the club really have no option but to strictly enforce what are, at the end of the day, rules we all sign up to when buying our tickets. And be seen to be enforcing given the spotlight we are under.

So our club are doing the necessary thing here and shouldn't really merit criticism.

It is right also to point out though the blatant double standards around the country, the worst of which, in my recent personal experience is Derby County (whose glossy 20 page stadium guide for home supporters doesn't mention standing once as far as I can see).

They are sucking the soul out of the football club, & by “they” I mean the club itself, & the governing bodies in a joint effort. The atmosphere was reportedly crap again last weekend, despite pumping Port Vale 7-0. Carry on in this vein & we’ll end up in league 2 before long, never mind the championship!

No mention of East Stand standing at the Tranmere game. Stewards doing the square root of F all. Bottle neck at the front of the stand before pens, people stood at top of gangways, full time kids allowed to stand on the front wall begging players for a free shirt, and most of the game young kids stood leaning over the wall around gangway 6 without being shifted.

If these laws apply to sporting events, they must also apply to stadium concerts.? Good luck with that one.. o_O
